Arrival Story:
I was off on leave the week before Christmas and was supposed to have left to go away for 2 days, but was running an hour late in leaving (extremely unusual for me I'm always punctual). My husband came home and entered the living area through the side door with something under his arm. I had no idea what it was but something inside me told me it was a kitten. "Have you got a kitten?" I asked in a very demanding tone. My husband looked shocked to see me still home and became defensive. "No, no, it's not a kitten?" he replied. "Don't you lie to me?" I told him angrily. "That's a kitten you're hiding under your arm." "No, no, it's not a kitten?" he replied once more. "Stop lying to me," I yelled at him angrily. He lifted the smallest kitten I have ever seen from under his arm and held her out to me. "Happy Christmas," he said quietly. Well, I exploded with all the force of a hurricane because I am a passionate believer that every pet should be a wanted one, chosen expecially and NEVER given to anyone as a present ever - pets that are presents more often than not end up becoming unwanted and neglected. He had been driving along the road and seen a sign out at someone's gate "Kittens for sale $10.00 each."

Bio:
Jesse was so tiny when we got her. The people who sold her to my husband had told him she was 4 weeks old. I took her to the vets 3 days after we got her and they said then that they seriously doubted she was even 4 weeks old then. Our vet was astounded that a kitten so young was even surviving away from her mother and that she seemed so healthy. Jesse had a wonderful crucial secret to her survival in that she was nurtured and cared for by our German Shepherd Dogs. They completely took over cleaning her, playing with her, watching over her, sleeping with her and suckling her. Bella got infected nipples and it was the strangest sight in the world seeing Elle who was a large dog stretched out on the livingroom floor with the tiniest kitten suckling on her. It was amazing at meal times to see all our dogs stand back from their food bowls and wait until Jesse had eaten her fill from everyone else's bowls. It was even funnier one day to observe Jesse out in the paddock beside our yard being chased by a huge black and white tomcat that lives down the road. She leaped the fence and then ran over between two of the dogs who were standing on the deck. Can you imagine the expression of horror on that tocat's face as he leaped onto the top of the fence? He caught himself before he leaped over and scampered away in a flash. Jesse rubbed around Elle's front legs with an expression on her face that said it all. "I told him that if he didn't stop picking on me my mother would deal to him." Sadly Jesse was tragically taken from us and went to the Rainbow Bridge on the evening of 07/11/2007.
