Halloween is as good a time as any to report the horrors of this past summer. I am a cat of delicate sensibilities, and the events from July onward were almost not to be born. Even the redoubtable Sam Spade, my twin in coloring but not in temperament, was much disturbed.
My Sir and My Lady decided to have the front porch of this house rebuilt, and to have new windows installed on the main floor. My very refuge was invaded by rude noises and rough-shod workers. It was enough to drive me under the king-sized bed for hours. Although he will never admit it, Sammi joined me there on many frightening occasions, as we groomed each other's fur for comfort. Don't let his latest diary fool you. I let him be the bully, because being Top Cat is really just too much work, but he's a big softy under all that muscle.
I'm glad Mrs. Patty has Little Lulu, the Maltese dog, to keep her company. We missed Gypsy--after all, she'd been here even before I came. Lulu is nice to My Lady.
I've learned a new skill. If I go about it carefully, I can practically crowd this computer off My Lady's lapboard and take over. But I'm careful never to go too far, because the laptop is a cat warmer, and My Lady gives me lots of strokes while she's "copying the mail."
Everybody have a great halloween, and many purrs,
Moonlight Louie
P.S. We'll be upstairs under the bed while those screaming demons are out on Halloween! My Sir and My Lady take NO chances with their matched pair of Black Cats!

I protest! Sammy Spade, junior member of our household is claiming Top Cat status. He is Top Cat, nor can he ever be. I, Moonlight Louie, am now and forever Number One! The Lady CHOSE me from among fifty or so competitors, so I am FIRST CHOICE, I'll have everyone know. She only took in that interloper because she felt sorry for HIS lady, who was allergic to cats.
Oh, all right, he's fun to chase around the house, and he gives a good face wash, but he doesn't need to get all stuck up about it. Besides, that "unfortunate accident" to his tail was no accident. He'd beaten me to top spot on our upholstered cat tree, and there he was, watching a chipmunk out the window and lashing his tail back and forth, while I lurked in the "barrel hoop" below. Pretty soon I got his rhythm, and I gave his tail such a swipe as laid it open a full two inches. He had to go to the vet, a fate worse than anything so far as I'm concerned, and he got a SHOT!
Let's face it, I take a lot of guff from my "matching" companion in black, because my mamma taught me my manners, but I am perfectly capable of bringing him down a few notches when he gets too uppity.
Greetings to all my fans, for I am your fan, too. Bear with Sam, please. We spat, but he's an O.K. guy at heart--just a bit rough around the edges.

I am back home and on the web after a month's visit to my friend, Jeffry, in the Upper Peninsula town of Ishpeming, Michigan. "Ishpeming" means "The High Place" in the Ojibwa language, and at about 800 feet above my home in Marquette, the altitude made me a little uncomfortable for awhile. I hid under Jeff's bed until I felt better, but he's such a nice person that I couldn't resist kindness and treats, and soon I settled in for a lovely time, running up and down the stairs and supervising his work. Like my folks, he works from home at his computer, and cats are his favorite animals. I'm very lucky that he doesn't have one of his own right now, so I've got a great home away from home.
But it's good to be back here at the big house, where I have even more roaming room. To show my gratitude, I investigated a suspicious intruder, caught and dispatched it, and left it neatly displayed for My Lady to find. She's not the squeamish type. She praised me, petted me, and removed the mouse, thanking me for doing a neat and efficient job. She says she put it where the crows will have it for lunch. She takes recycling quite seriously. Personally, I didn't find it at all appetizing.
At my latest (ugh!) veterinary visit I was pronounced free of FIV and FLV viruses. My Lady is very happy about that. And for Halloween, I am going as my natural, black velvet, black cat self.
Remember, Catster friends, at Halloween, all cats are sacred, right? It's our night to purr!
Best treats to all,
MOONLIGHT LOUIE, P.I.
