Nicknames: Sophie Supermodel, Sophie Sweet Eyes, Soapie, Wally calls her 'Sunshine'
Birthday: September 10th 2003
Coloration: Brown Tabby
Likes: Attention from Dad, laying on Dad's shoulder, when Mom brushes her, playing
Pet-Peeves: Though petite, she is not afraid to stand up to cats twice her size, and show them who is boss
Favorite Toy: laser pointer, wool catnip mouse, feathers on a stick, any bug will do
Favorite Nap Spot: She's not picky, the bed, the bench, the rocker.
Favorite Food: Friskie's prime filet (beef, turkey, or chicken flavors), lunch meat, Pro Plan kitten dry. We have to hold her while we put the other cats food down, or she will eat it all!
Skills: she's very graceful, walks like she's on the style show runway in high heels
Arrival Story: Like so many other of our kitties, Sophie was found in a neighboring town while we were working. She was dumped off at the gate to a farm. This would have been ideal, except for the farmers dog, Striker was a known cat killer. She had evaded him for a couple of days by diving under the house. As we worked, she cautiously came to us, repeatedly. The home owner said they had fed her, but did not want her. From the looks my wife was giving me, I could see the "please, please" in her face. And secretly I was in agreement, but not about to tell her so! We knew her time would be short if we didn't take her home with us. Did I mention that she was a beautiful cat, but that had no influence on the decision (wink, wink). So into the truck and home we all went.
Bio: The first week we had Sophie, we were called to do a job in San Antonio and had to spend the night. Since our vet had her on two different medications, we decided to take her with us. Sophie was a great companion on the trip up, and settled into bed with us that night at the motel. Then she found that she could sit in the window and watch all the comings and goings in the parking lot below and spent the rest of the night there. Boy, was she cranky the next day. She definitely did not get her beauty sleep! We stopped at the local PetSmart for treats and toys, but she would not be pacified. She just wanted to go home to her own bed, and by that time, so did we!
Though Sophie is one of the smaller cats in the house, her size doesn't stop her from backing down Xerox, a 19 pound male! She is a tough little gal. As she has grown older, she has also become more affectionate. She loves to play, especially on the bed, and gracefully leaps after toys! Our photography does not capture her true beauty. Sophie could melt anyone's heart with the sweet looks she can give. She certainly has ours.
This is a very important day to me.
It is a bittersweet memory of two years ago, December 1, 2007.
It's the day my beloved Wally made his journey to the Bridge after bravely battling illness.
The Bridge took him too young. We had planned a lifetime together.
My Wally died, but our love did not. The wonderful giving and kind spirit of him lives on forever. Our love lives on forever. My heart is his forever.
To my Wally Bear...fly into my heart, fill it with warmth and love. Fill it with treasured memories. Fill it with a promise of eternal love. For I will never leave you, and you will never leave me, and one day we will be together again, for ever and ever.~Love always, Sophie
I have to write fast...mom is as busy as a bee today. No, make that as busy as a bee hive!
I have to say quickly that my page is filled with lovely gifts from my even lovelier friends!
Thank you all so very, very much. I will send everyone something purrsonal in the next few days.
Secondly, I got my birthday wish, if only for a half day. It cleared up yesterday afternoon, and the sun came out! Stinky was breathing better when mom & dad came home last night. He ate his dinner and took all his medicine without being forced. This morning he meowed at mom, which he doesn't do when he is sick. But alas, it began to rain in the early hours of the morning, and it is gray, and wet outside now. :(
We have had a drought this summer, so everyone wanted rain, just not all of it in only a few days.
Well, as my beloved Wally says, "Gotta fly".
I hope to be back later.
Love and kisses, Sophie
P.S. I bet you thought I forgot to tell you about my birthday present? It was a small feather boa like thing, on a stick, and I sit on my haunches and bat it endlessly! Mom will take a picture soon! ~xoxoxo Sophie
