Arrival Story:
I was listening to the radio and heard an ad about the local shelter having too many kittens and I just couldn't resist. Although Howie was really little, and had huge ears and a really long tail, making him look a little strange, when I picked him up he curled up on my shoulder and fell asleep, purring.

Howie was found on the streets at 2 weeks old. He was bottle fed until older, and I adopted him at about 8 weeks. Howie disappeared out the apartment door as mommy was ready to go on vacation on 9/4/08. No one has seen him since, and his microchip has not been scanned. Please take care of yours. Howie has been found 7 weeks later, very skinny but OK. It really is a miracle because he showed up 2 days before I move. My prayers have been answered! Howie passed away suddenly after an intestinal rupture. I will always miss my gray guy.

My kitten gave me a hickey!

I picked my own name! Mom was reading names out of a baby book, and when she got to Howard, I let out my little squeaky meow, and came over. Not her first choice, but it works.

Mommy found me last night after a very long time! I don't know how long, but it was warm and sunny when I went exploring. I was meowing all day and the nice neighbor lady saw me, so when mommy got home from work, they went out, mommy called for me and I ran and hugged her (oops, I scratched up her shoulder pretty good). I am so happy to be home, I meowed all evening and didn't leave her side. I am starving and very skinny, but I won't tell mommy where I've been. Henry and Louie look confused to see me and are hissing at me cause I smell weird. Hopefully, they will realize it's me.

Mommy says we're moving, and I need to hide inside since the apartments only allow 2 cats (hey, she only had 2 when she signed the lease!) The apartment looked empty last night which threw me off, but I found my spot on the couch and bed, so I'm happy. I just hope I can gain some weight because I am too skinny.

6 weeks and counting.

Tomorrow morning means my sweet baby Howie has been gone for 6 weeks.

I had 3 people call with leads this past weekend, but none of the gray and white cats were him. I still check the humane society, and other sources (craig's list, newspaper classifieds) every couple days. The people at the HS have been very nice and let me walk around on my own now.

I am signing my lease on my new apartment today, which hopefully means making new, happier memories with my 2 remaining boys. This new complex is much quieter, safer, and pet friendly without all the strays roaming.

If my baby comes back I'll have to sneak him in because they have a 2 pet max policy, but I am losing hope that my Howie will return to me. I just hope he's found a new family to love him.

It's been 4 weeks.

It's been 4 weeks since Howie disappeared. I thought I heard his little "mew" on my porch at about 4 this morning, but found an unfriendly stray helping herself to my catnip plant I left on the porch to try to lure Howie back. I of course was extremely upset and couldn't get back to sleep.

I let my apartment manager and neighbors know he's still gone, and tomorrow after work will update the lost kitty info at the humane society. No sign of him at all, I even did a wider search of my neighborhood last weekend at dusk, walking to the edge of a bordering hill about 1/2 mile away then making a big loop, weaving up and down streets as I called his name. Nothing. I am heartbroken, but at least I have my other 2 boys to love. It's very weird, now that Howie is gone, they won't even venture out on the grass in front of my apartment, they stay on my front porch. Can they make the connection that Howie wandered and now he's gone?

I am packing up to move in 3 weeks into a safer neighborhood (sans cat collectors and coyotes) and will make a little keepsake box with all his favorite things--toy, blanket, treats. If he does come back to me I want to have these things for him. If not, then it'll be a special reminder of my sweet baby.

I had many cats growing up, but never one that just disappeared, so this is very hard. I don't want to say goodbye yet, but I am losing hope.
