Arrival Story: Yak was named by my husband and stands for Yet Another Kat.
Yak was first noticed peering into our front window at night. We could only see his white face so we named him the Ghost Kitty. We were a happy home of three cats and three dogs so we were not ready for a new kitty in our lives. Yak continued to peer in , night after night, and I decided to start giving him left-overs from TC's food. TC was a Maine Coon Lady that had wandered into my mothers yard one day. Mom began to feed her and fell in love with this sweet little lady. Mom asked me to take TC, ( The Cat) home for the winter while she was in Florida. I never returned TC. She lived with us for several years. TC developed cancer and began to be a picky eater. Tortie and Smokey, our resident cats, refused to eat after TC so we had left-overs every day. This is what I put in the front yard every morning. Yak was greatful. At night he peered into the warm house full of people, cats and dogs. In the day hit hid out in the bushes and snuck over to the food. After TC went to the Rainbow Bridge, I decided I needed a new buddy in the house. Each day I moved the bowl closer to the front door and then sat on the sidewalk and read the paper. Yak got used to me and would eat and run away. Little by little the bowl got closer. Yak would act like he was rubbing against me but never did. I never tried to touch him but talked gently. Finally one day he ate his food, turned and jumped into my lap! He wrapped his paws around me, snuggled down and was home. He became my lap buddy. For months he clung to me whenever I sat down, tucking his head under my chin and purring. Yak had to be with me at all times. He worked puzzles, knitted, watched the sewing machine run, worked in the garden, and read the newspaper. His most important job was helping me take a cat nap. I had health problems that made napping an important part of the day. He was always ready to apply his 15 pounds of fur and love to my lap , or even on my back, to help me relax. He often slept with his head on the pillow when my husband was out of town. Yak had a crush on Miss Tortie and would be assigned to follow her around the yard whenever she went out. When she passed onto the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 21, he was heart broken. After six months of moping, Miss Cherry Berry came to live with us.

Bio: Yak passed away quite suddenly in 2007. This has been very hard for me and coming to Catster has been the beginning of healing. Yak had a variety of ailments for about six months. The Vet kept treating the symptoms and was not concerned. I took him in for yet another little problem and was told that he would need to be put to sleep. No diagnosis or bedside manners. Just, here you go, when do you want it done.
In my grief I have researched, changed vets, and believe that YAK had FIP. The new vet has tested Miss Cherry Berry and said that Cherry also has FIP and only has a few months to live. I NOW believes Cherry Berry only has the virus and IS NOT SICK! yeah!!!!
Because of this, Yak has decided to become her Guardian Angel.

Hey Yak, missing you today. I think I saw one of your brothers at the neighbors house. He stopped what he was doing and gave me a look like, " see, we are still here." It was so good to see someone from your family.

Mom, I just wanted you to know that I have been asked to join the Over the Rainbow group! You know I am kinda shy so I have only been watching everyone but boy it looks like fun. I have enjoyed eating lots of salmon, tuna and chicken and lots of yummy yogurt. I can get an icecream popsicle anytime I want and I do not have to share. Well I did share it with Tortie. I talked to Tortie and she wondered why you do not have her picture posted for everyone to see. She is so beautiful. I follow her everywhere. She introduced me to Jessica and you were right. Jessica is smart and she really loves you. Maybe you could find a picture of her sometime. Oh, I have to go now, someone just found a piece of yarn and wants to play tug of war.....
Oh , by the way, those yellow flowers are beautiful, but seriouly, not very macho.

thank you 4 reading my diary. Mom always loves for people to see how beautiful and sweet I am. Catster has helped her feel better because she knows that other kitty mom and dads understand.
Thank you Catster friends.
