Arrival Story:
Poor baby Angel has had a very rough life. She was born into a group of 45 cats that a man kept in a house. One day, he started a fire in the middle of the house -- "To get the smell out", he claimed. Most of the cats died from smoke inhalation. The county animal control said that since there were no records of any of the cats being vaccinated against rabies, they would have to be put down, or quarantined for 6 months under a vet's care. The Humane Society of Concord ( was able to take in four cats, and quarantined them by two in separate vet clinics. Angel's roommate, a little kitten, died a few days into the quarantine, so she was all alone for 6 months, with very little human contact. When the quarantine was up, I took her in to foster and work on making her more sociable. It has been a real struggle, and she's still a feral cat in many ways, but she has made much progress. UPDATE: It's been almost a year since Angel came to stay with me, so I officially adopted her on 11/6/04. She still hates me.

Angel loves my other cats, especially Henry, who she snuggles up to every chance she gets. She has short stubby legs and a big round, roly-poly body, so she has trouble jumping up on ledges -- most of the time she falls flat on her butt. She still runs whenever I come toward her, but she's not as afraid as she used to be -- she'll even sleep in the bed with me. Angel likes to keep a strict schedule - so if I hit the snooze button in the mornings, she will meow at a deafening decible until I get up. Check out Angel's cat toy picks at
