Coloration: Dilute Calico
Likes: Playing with her furry octopus, racing around the house chasing mice, playing with the long string, cuddling, talking and generally being the center of attention.
Pet-Peeves: Getting her nails cut, her teeth brushed, and she's not thrilled when you leave the house.
Favorite Toy: Furry octopi and the long string
Favorite Nap Spot: Her nap spots keep changing. She likes the comfy carpet in the living room in a sunny spot in the morning and sometimes the bedroom closet under the blouses accompanied by her octopus.
Favorite Food: Chicken! But she can only really have Wellness grain free canned food on a daily basis due to her health issues. She loves cod liver oil.
Skills: Meowing loudly while carrying her octopi around inher mouth late at night by herself, retrieving balls, understanding some English, knowing ALL her nicknames (and she has many!), generally being able to make anybody she meets feel better about life.
Dwells:
indoors
Arrival Story: Snowie was a stray for at least a year before she came home with me. She was a smart girl to have toughed it out on her own for so long. She is outgoing and has a sunny disposition so lots of people took care of her. Somebody set up a cardboard box with a towel in it on a porch where she curled up to nap and where she slept at night. People regularly fed her. She differentiated between "good" people and "bad" people. If a "good" person came walking by she would run out to greet him/her. If a "bad" person came by, she would hide behind her special bush. When she realized she had a home you could tell she was relieved and grateful. After an inspection at the vet (no earmites! no fleas! no infectious diseases!) we settled into a routine. Snowie slept on the bed next to mom's right hip, as close as she could get. She put on some weight and we played retrieve the toy mice, chase the balls, chase the long string and lots of cuddling and talking. We realized we were meant to find each other.
Bio: After 9 months, it was apparent Snowie was very sick. We went to the vet and then to a specialist and surgery was imperative, but perhaps due to the stress on the kidneys, she went into acute renal failure 24 hours after surgery and was basically hanging on by a thread. We couldn't imagine life without this sweet girl and came every day to feed her and talk to her. The vet techs tried to feed her, but she would only eat for us. She pulled through during a week in intensive care with aggressive fluids and monitoring. When she got home, she staggered around the house determined to check out all the usual spots and sniff out any interlopers. She spent a good 10 minutes on the scratchie pad scratching away. Boy did that feel good after more than a week cooped up in the hospital! Snowie has used up several of her lives. She's got lots of personality and is a bundle of love! And she doesn't take life for granted....

First, I wanted to say how exciting it is to have my tasty candy corn hat and matching candy corn colored collar in time for Halloween courtesy of Hazel Lucy, and I wanted to update you on a few things.
My mom's dad has been visiting and he is very sweet to me. He treats me like a spoiled grandcat -- I get food and praise and love at every turn, and I have grown very fond of him. Mom has been very busy working so I don't see much of her, so thank god we have a stand-in family member who runs and gets me food whenever I want it, and plays with me and pets me and pays attention to me.
We saw the babies of the squirrel mom who my mom rescued and who sadly died on the way to the wildlife rescue place. You will be relieved to know that the babies were quite a bit older than we had first thought they were....so we think they can make it without their mom. It was a tragedy though. We'll never forget how the dad squirrel cried and screamed and tried to help but couldn't. And we'll never forget how brave and strong and tough the little mother squirrel was. She did all she possibly could to hang on and our hearts broke when she died.
We have an update on Trooper the little black pit bull who was thrown into a dumpster in a black plastic trash bag and was able to bite a hole in it to breath, and was spotted by a rescuer. She had likely been used as "bait" in a dog fighting ring and thrown away when she was so terrribly hurt, rather than kill her or treat her wounds. She was in terrible shape and spent 2 months at my Vet (Friendship) recovering. Her care cost over $9000 and luckily many people chipped in. Trooper was released from Friendship today and sent to a rehab center so she can be socialized and spend time getting over the trauma she has been through so she can be adopted and live a happy life. The news outlets can't reveal the name of the rehab place because they don't want former dog fighting owners finding their cast off dogs and retaliating. There is a reward out for the person that used Trooper in dog fights, but so far no one has stepped forward. We hope this person is found and punished.
That's all from my corner of the woods! Mom and her dad are walking in the Farm Sanctuary walk tomorrow. My mom helped organize it and she got donations for the gift bags from a wonderful place called Eatz and Treatz. They make yummy vegan food! Mom is walking to raise awareness about how poorly farm animals are treated. They deserve better!!
Don't you remember that scary movie: Children of the Corn?? I got my candy corn hat from Hazel Lucy the other day just in time for Fall and Halloween (see the photo of me with the hat). I was thrilled. Now H-L and I can be sisters of the corn!! MOL!
The only problem was that mom had a hard time taking a photo of it on me. No sooner would she put the hat on my head than I would shake it off...it became a fun game. So the fact that she got a half decent picture of me with the hat on my head is a miracle!
Hazel Lucy! Thanks for the great candy corn hat!! I love it even if I am less inclined to wear it!!
P.S. Check out Hazel Lucy's page. She's wearing her candy corn hat and she has pictures of me and her Corn Brother Tuffy wearing our hats. Since Catster doesn't have candy corn rosettes to give, I had to give H-L an aCORN!! TEE HEE!
Oh, I've been a little tired lately! There has been so much commotion: Antonio doing the patching and painting, going to the Vet, getting blessed at the Cathedral, over the entire weeknd mom doing a huge spring cleaning by taking things to storage and throwing away major amounts and moving all the furniture around, and then yesterday, Margarita and Olga cleaning the house from top to bottom for 5 hours straight. I, of course, had to supervise and it is exhausting work. When mom came home last night, she said the house has never been so clean and I have to say it looks and feels great!
But its a good thing to keep the house super clean because mom reacently had allergy testing done and she's allergic to 4 things: cockroaches (ugh!), dust mites (double ugh!), grasses (yum), and....drumroll please..... ME!! Can you imagine? Ridiculous allergy testing. How in the world could anyone be allergic to delectable and delightful me!?? Mom still has some more testing to do and she'll consult the allergist on a course of action, but mostly, she's choosing to ignore the 4th allergy CATegory. She's in denial. Breathing in Snowie fur is one of her favorite activities. I'm not kidding. She routinely puts her nose in my fur and snuffles...she says she likes the way I smell and feel.
