Arrival Story:
My mother found Sugie while visiting a friend. They saw a paper bag in the middle of the road near her friend's home, which was moving and making sounds...it turned out there was a kitten inside and someone had put it in there! The friend already had a cat so they rescued the kitten and gave her to my mother, who gave her to me. I was almost 11 years old and she was about 6 weeks old, when I got her in January 1976. She was such a sweet kitty....she had the most beautiful coat and her fur was nice and soft. As a kid I played with her, dressing her up in some of my doll dresses, even pretending to dance with her. Her independent, fiesty personality made it hard to get close to her....she went outside a lot and hunted often.
At one point during her kittenhood, I accidentally broke one of her legs...I'd gone to pick up and cuddle her and she managed to squirm out of my clutches. I tried to grab her paw to get her back but she twisted it and then I heard she was crying "Wow, wow". She broke her leg and wore a large cast on her right front leg. They had to insert a rod in her leg....the vet said she'd limp, but she only limped while she wore the cast and once it was gone she was just fine!
She also was spayed at about 6 months old (I think) and they said they'd done a special procedure and put prongs in her. However even tho she was spayed she went into heat every year....and would attract tomcats and yowl.
When I grew up and left home, Sugie stayed with my parents. Sugie died at age 20 years old in 1996. We think she died from old age but she may have died from dehydration, as she may have broken one of her hips.

Sugar is her real name, but she always went by "Sugie" (pronounced shoog-ee.)
