Food, stealing food, treats, yellow mouse game, and most of all cheese.
Her brother Alexei. Being picked up.
Favorite Nap Spot:
Daddy's chest, on top of her sister Loomis.
Any and all, but especially cheese or anything she can steal.
Schnuzzling and chuffing. Ninja food stealing skills. Hunting bugs.
We adopted Mina from the same woman we had adopted Loomis from two years before. We were moving in together, to an apartment where cats would be legal and we decided Loomis needed a baby kitten friend. (Loomis later told us we were wrong about that, but too late.) We asked our friend to be on the lookout for a kitten who would make a good companion for Loomis. She first told us about a tiny little grey kitten, and we decided to go and meet him. When we got there we met the grey kitty, but she also introduced us to an even tinier bicolor. One of us picked her up when she was in the litter box-- big mistake! She pooped in her daddy's hand and it was love at first sight. However, we also loved our little grey friend-- so Loomis ended up with two baby companions. It was probably for the best, since they largely entertained each other and she was able to get some peace from them. Sadly, the grey kitty, whom we named Aloysius, died of FIP and broke our hearts slightly less than one year after we adopted to two of them. We all took this event pretty hard as Loomis had taken a strong liking to the little guy as well, and he and Mina had been together since they were tiny babies. But Mina-- who was the runt of her litter-- has managed to thrive with us and has turned in to our not-so-gentle giant of a girl.
Mina was a very little girl when we first got her and we didn't realize that she was actually older than her "litter mate" Aloysius until she started getting in her adult teeth and had two sets of fangs for a while-- scary! This should have been our first hint that she was going to grow into a very fierce and assertive young lady. Her initial tiny self was also the source of her main nickname-- we called her "The Bean" because when she would curl up on the floor she looked like a little garbanzo bean. As you can see from her photos, Mina loves nothing more than lying on other cats, especially her sister Loomis. She is quite the bossy lady and asserts herself by plopping her big body down on whomever might be nearby-- cat or human, it doesn't much matter. The sadness of Mina's life has been the loss of her first brother, Aloysius. He was a very beautiful and sweet grey kitty who died before his first birthday of FIP. A couple of years later, we decided we needed another grey boy in our lives and-- as an homage to Aloysius-- adopted Mina's brother Alexei. Sadly, Mina, in all her loyalty to Aloysius, has never forgiven Alexei for attempting to take his place as the household's grey kitten boy. We're still hoping some day she might accept him but it's not looking good. Apparently Mina was found in a field outside Chicago all by herself as a tiny baby, and we've theorized that her kitty mom abandoned her because she was the runt of the litter and not likely to make it. As we like to say, she sure showed her! She's grown in to a large and in charge girl kitty who is definitely daddy's girl. If he is anywhere near a chair or couch, she throws herself against him and "schnuzzles" his face. Most of all, she loves food and loves stealing other kitties' food even more.
