Arrival Story: My sister wanted to adopt a new kitten while we were sharing a home as roommates. I hoped we could find a cat who could stand up to my monster Mokus, and who could help give my old Kimba some peace. So we found a shy, quiet little gray-and-white kitty with very green eyes at the same rescue place where I'd adopted Mokus and on her crate was a warning note that she'd already been rejected and returned once for being too "aggressive" with the would-be owner's other cats. We liked the spirited sound of her from the note, and we felt badly that she'd been returned once already so she was the obvious adoption choice for us.

Bio: Isabeau was a perfectly planned addition to my animal family, although I didn't know at the time of her adoption that she would actually be mine (she was transferred to me after my sister moved away). Perhaps as a result of not getting to bond early with a consistent human caretaker, Izzy is very shy around people, does not like to be held, hates having her picture taken (but allows it now and then), and will never get over her wary discomfort of sharing her home with A Dog. [Newsflash! Since writing that over a year ago, I've caught Izzy allowing me to photograph her *near* the dog!! It's a huge breakthrough!] But amazingly she's the right match for impossible-to-deal-with Mokus. Isabeau likes to initiate play with him, even though she's going to end up being thwamped by him every time. That never dampens her spirits permanently and the two like each other a lot. She also is the sweetest, cuddliest cat as long as she's allowed to approach people on her own terms and not be picked up. She happily will lie along the backs of chairs and sofas and rub her head on a human head, purring loudly, and she snuggles under the covers at night. She even likes to follow the basset hound Jasmine around the house, as long as Jasmine won't stop to turn around and look at her (it's funny when Izzy follows Jasmine tooo quickly so that she finds herself accidentally walking *next* to the dog and not behind her as planned!). I often call her my perfect cat because she asks for nothing but gentleness (with a dash of feisty play with Mokie), has no bad habits, and is full of quiet, ladylike affection and purrs. She will sit for hours across the room in a chair by herself and blink happy contented blinks. If she hears her nickname "Boo-boooo!" called enough times she will come galloping out from her hiding place with her tail quivering in excitement.
