Arrival Story:
Like my brother and half-brother, I was born to a feral cat-mother under a trailer. Try as they might, my mother's family could not capture my feral cat-mother. So instead they took in all of us kitties as soon as we were weaned and tried to find us homes. I was initially adopted out to a woman who had two other cats, but I did not fit into that family, so I was returned. This whole ordeal of being returned traumatized me and I became rather aloof. My mother's partner (my special person) is now working on making me more social. I've improved significantly. From my moms: Minnie was diagnosed with high grade gastro-intestinal lymphoma on November 27, 2010. The vet said Minnie had a life expectancy of two to eight months. Minnie put up a brave fight, but we had to help her pass from this life on January 21, 2011. Minnie's final gift to us with staying with us through the holidays so we could enjoy them as a family one last time together. Minne had become very social in her last years with us, and even came out for strangers. We miss her terribly.

Cacklings from Minnie

One Year

Dear Miss Minnie,

A year ago, you left us for the Bridge, leaving a huge hole in our family and our hearts. I planned to spend the day honoring your memory. Unfortunately, instead, I must quickly prepare to drive Alex Bun Rabbit to UC Davis. In the end, I suspect this is what you would have wanted: focus on the living and not dwell on the past. I love you Miss Minnie and miss you so much.

Your Special Person,
Amy

Update on Tygre

Dear Minnie,

I did not mean to distress you yesterday regarding your litter mate, Tygre. Yes he has had a difficult time with all the changes in the family this past year.

But Tygre has made amazing strides since we started receiving guidance from an animal behaviorist. He is cuddling with and grooming Sheba. He has started playing more, and asking us to play with him.

Recently, he even began playing with sparkle balls again. I don't think he had touched a sparkle ball since you passed. But today, he carried two sparkle balls out of the bedroom to me, crying all the way. It reminded me of you.

He still struggles with Newman at times, especially when Newman wants on the bed. But overall, I think you would be very proud of your brother.

And please know that we understand that he is having a hard time. We love him, and are trying to help him feel more confident and comfortable.

But I am sure he would appreciate a visit from you.

Love you always. Miss you.

Your Special Person,
Amy

New Year's Eve

Dear Minnie,

I just saw a flash of grey as I walked in to the closet. Was that you, checking in on Tygre? Admittedly, he has not been doing well the last few days. He had a major spat with Newman last night. He could use your reassurance. But please know that overall he has been doing much better. He can walk past Newman, tail held high, without fear that Newman will attack him (not that Newman ever would).

It is New Year's Eve. Another bittersweet holiday. I am grateful to bid farewell to a year in which I lost both you and Sydney Rabbit. But it is difficult to know that I am entering a year which you never lived to see...at least in your physical form of Miss Minnie. In some way, I feel like the new year pushes me further away from you.

The anniversary of your death is just around the corner as well. That will not be easy either. You hung on so we could have one last holiday season with you. Thank you for that.

It is hard to believe that the one year anniversary of your passing is almost upon us. Seeing Newman and Cali Lucy as normal, healthy, happy cats, I know the time has passed. But still, your passing seems like only moments ago. And the pain is still so raw.

Please know that Danielle and I continue to work with your brofur, Tygre. He is struggling with Newman and Cali Lucy joining the family. And obviously, your loss was very hard on him as well. But an animal behaviorist developed a plan to help Danielle and I help Tygre gain confidence and feel comfortable.

I miss you Minnie. And although you will not be with me this coming year in your physical form as Minnie, I will never forget you.

I love you and miss you.

Your Special Person,
Amy
