Arrival Story:
On a chilly rainy day, a teacher colleague approached me outside my classroom during a 15 minute recess. "You're a cat person, aren't you?" she asked. "Mm,hmm," I answered. "There's this cat making a racket outside my classroom and it's interrupting the students' test taking. Can you do something?" Walking over to the cat, I found a small, wet, brown tabby meowing relentlessly. I picked her up without a struggle from her and brought her to my room. I offered her water which she drank. I had to wait until lunch recess to run out and get her food and litter. I made a litterbox from one of the many plastic storage boxes I had. When offered food that little girl ate a weeks worth of food as fast as she could inhale it. Soon after finishing she curled up in my lap and started her slumber. She slept soundly for hours. Oh yes, I had decided to try to keep her as she slept on my lap. I thought she was the embodiment of sweetness. The poor girl obviously hadn't eaten or slept in a very long time. Once she awoke, her first action was to bite my finger that I had waved too close to her face as I was speaking to my students. I hadn't even realized that she was awake, I was taken by surprise. Gone was the embodiment of sweetness and in her place was my fiesty girl. I remember being struck with how she received the gift of food and shelter I gave her. It wasn't gratitude from her I felt. It was as if she were communicating to me, "Well, of course you are going to take care of me. What else would you do?" I fell in love with her sense of self. If only I could share her self-confidence. Oh by the way, my students named her. She was named after the main character in "Cookie's Week".

Bio:
Cookie still is a fiesty girl. She has a low tolerance for nonsense. You may wonder what nonsense is. Well, it's anything you might chose to "DO" with or to her. Oh she's affectionate, as long as she invites the attention. She is my only cat that I cannot bribe. She doesn't like being brushed and that means even if she's receiving treats. She believes that treats are her right, so why would she accept it as payment for certain behaviors. They should be simply given to her. Oh, and not any old treat will do. Until last week it was fish flakes only. And of course not just any fish flake. It had to be Bonito fish flakes. Tuna flakes are for lesser cats. Last week she found out she likes Salmon flavored Greenies. She is scheduled to taste test the other flavors of Greenies this week. We'll try to come back and report their worthiness.
