Arrival Story: Markie was my first cat and she picked me. She came out of the carrier and started to chew on my purse. This little puff of orange stole my heart. I really wanted a grey kitten, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. I wanted a female and she was one. I also adopted her sister Value - I am a real estate appraiser - so the names are supposed to be cute.

Bio: Markie left us in late March 2001 - she had kidney disease, which was not known until she left us. She wasn't in bed that Saturday morning or wasn't around when I was getting dressed. I found her on the dining room floor - cold to the touch. I put a blanket on her, but she moved and then had an "accident" on the floor - I immediately called the vet. In about one hour, my dear vet told me that she had about four days to live. Her kidneys were totally gone. I brought her home, tried to give her some baby food, but she stayed in the carrier. I isolated her, just to make sure she wasn't contagious. She finally got out of the carrier, and just cried. It broke my heart - this wasn't my sweet orange girl. I scratched her at the base of her tail, under her chin, kissed her head, told her I loved her, and said that she didn't have to be strong, she could let go. A few minutes later, I called Dr. Kevin and within five hours she was gone.
She was my back warmer in bed at night resulting in a lot of morning discussions about your half of the bed and my half. She loved her sister and her sister loved her. And Katie Rose adored her.
A month or so after she was gone, I found one of her balls in my briefcase. How it got there - I really want to think that it was Markie telling me that she is okay.
