Arrival Story:
Rescued her and her sister Barbie from a sewer in July 2000. They were both scrawny and meowing piteously. But from the start, I already saw how different they were from each other. Marsha responded to tummy rubs and gentle scratches on her back while Barbie was shy and rather aloof, rather snooty. That holds true up to now. Marsha also has a heart-shaped patch of yellow-orange fur on her back. Incidentally, that playful kitten beside her is Chikki, her last offspring. Marsha already looks rather "matronly" in that picture, doesn't she?

Bio:
She was recently spayed last July and has grown really bigger. I'm now trying to teach her to flush the toilet after she has peed.

My Tail of Devotion for Marsha

The best days are when you snuggle into my lap, especially when it rains, and the pitter-patter of raindrops on the roof syncopate with your purring.

The best days are when I watch you nap as you assume the most human of poses and expressions and get the shock of my life when you start exhibiting the same sleeping habits as mine.

The best days are when we sit companionably side by side while having dinner [mine] and being the perfect dining companion. How your eyes gleam on every platter of food on the table and how your perfect manners make you just the most welcome dinner guest.

The best of all things is that you are Marsha and you are a reminder of how lucky we both are to find and love each other other. You have won my heart. Totally. Absolutely. Completely. Forever.

This is a special Tail of Devotion

Musings and memories

Have you seen my latest photo? That's not a fake! Yes, sirree! There were no digital retouches or manipulations, even if my human is a wizard at this thing called Adobe (why they named it after a stone I'll never know).

Whenever I go to the toilet to do my business (pee only, please; pooping remains to be a litterbox matter), it seems like I always have an audience. Hey, what can I say? I'm simply amazing. May's dad sometimes moves the floor rug nearer the door so I can wipe my feet on it after I'm done.

However, there are some days when I have to meow constantly to get someone's attention so that they can open the door for me. I haven't graduated to twisting door knobs yet but that will come soon! May says I should learn how to flush next time and wiping the toilet seat. According to her, real ladies should 'sit like a princess, and not like a frog.' I wish I could do that but when I tried that once, I slipped and fell into the bowl. EWWWWWWWWWWW.

But now, May is always on standby whenever I go to the toilet. She has the disinfectant (I'm very meticulous in my hygiene so I don't why she keeps spraying Lysol) and tissue paper ready. Oh, and she makes sure the toilet seat is down pat because I can never pee without the toilet seat. Excuse me.

I've got lots of other pictures showing me in the same kind of pose. I don't know why they still squeal with excitement whenever they see me doing it. Gee, I never squeal whenever I see them peeing. Not that I see them often. But sometimes, I really wish I had more privacy. Know what I mean?

May is pretty thoughtful though. She closes the door a little so that I can pee in peace (ha!). However, sometimes I just run a blue streak out the door that I often make her lose her footing. But that's ok.

-------------

I just realized that my previous diary entry was dated December 4th. I didn't get to post any more entries after that, even with all the occasions and celebrations of the holiday seasons, for a good reason.

You see, May's mom got sick a week after that and she had to take care of her mom in the hospital. Actually, I only got to see her every few days when she came to get a change of clothes or catch up on sleep. She really looked awful --she had these huge blue rings under her eyes, and her eyes were always red and she never seemed to smile. I guess her mom was really sick and really needed her because May never got to feed us.

The house was so empty. And then, there were all these strange people coming and going. And before I knew it, it was the new year and I learned that May's mother had died before the new year. So that's why there was no Christmas nor New Year celebrations in the house. All the rooms were quiet and dark.

I remember her clearly still. She kinda looked like what May might be when she got older. She was always the first one awake in the morning and she'd open the door to the toilet for me. She always came first though and then it was my turn.

Since it was just the 2 of us usually in those early hours, she'd sometimes talk to me. Often, she'd offer me a piece of bread or a piece of tuna, if she was having tuna for breakfast.

I know her name was Josie. It was a really friendly name. But I know I was named after her, so why am I called Marsha and not Josie? Turns out that 'Marsha' was May's dad's nickname for her mom. It was after this popular TV couple. So May's dad became 'John' and her mother, 'Marsha.' And that's why I'm Marsha.

I sometimes sense May's sadness. I know she misses her mother. I do, too. She wore these really great house dresses that those ties at the back. But she often left them untied so they were trailing down her back, and I'd often tug it playfully. She never seemed to mind. On weekends, whenever she watched tv, I'd jump on her lap and get a nap. She smelled like a mom. Felt like a mom. I felt truly loved.

I feel honored to be named after someone who has been more than a mother and parent. Nanay Josie (that's how May calls her) is goodness personified. I felt it. I felt her love, her compassion, her kindness, her sincerity, her goodness. It was real. It was true.

I hope to be just like the human Marsha. To be just as good, kind and faithful. And to be loved and cherished just as she was.

Sniffing Christmas

I'm really glad May is letting me sleep indoors now. It's December and the nights are really chilly. Often I find myself snoozing early and not waking up until 7am. Whoa! Could it be that I'm gettin golder?

I prefer to think that, like my humans, I just prefer to stay in bed a little longer, curl up a little more and hope catch that elusive butterfly in my dreams.

I once tried to sleep outside with the rest of the brood, but all the good spots were taken. I had to meow and meow for May to let me in and she did, after a scolding and then an ear scratch. She picked me up and brought me to my favorite spot, the microwave. There was a new cover there--thicker and warmer--on top of the usual microwave cover. May placed it there so that any food she cooks in the microwave won't have any hairs from yours truly.

My new mattress has flowers and butterfly prints! Talk about luck!

Meanwhile, I'm a little worried about Hati. He's one of my oldest boys. He got this nasty wound on his cheek and May is bawling her eyes out. She keeps trying to put antiseptic on Hati but he refuses. I keep telling him that it's for his own good, and besides, it doesn't even sting. Just a little bit cold at first. It's the same stuff she put on me when I got my liposuction last July. Tasted the stuff and blech! But May says that icky brown stuff made me heal faster.

If you're reading this friends, please say a little prayer for my son Hati. That he be a good cat and that he'll get well soon. He'll be brought to the vet tomorrow. I hope May can catch him, though. He's pretty agile and fast while May is...oops! :)

Snooze time folks....zzzz
