Arrival Story:
My beloved cat Willie Wonka had just gone to the Bridge when my vet's husband called to say they had a kitten they'd found under a tree near their barn; he was being kept in the vet's mobile van, and John felt I just *had* to have him. My husband and I were getting ready to go away for a week, so I told John I'd check out the kitten when we came back. A week later, I kept my promise and went to see the kitten; I played with him for an hour but decided, since we still had two cats, we didn't need another, and I left him there. All weekend, I thought about that kitten - cute little grey thing. On Monday, a friend was coming for a day's outing, and I knew she'd be driving right past the vet's, so I asked her to bring the kitten with her. And so my time with Merlin had begun. I tried to think of names for him; Paddy didn't seem right, but he was longhaired and grey - and such a little charmer - that I thought of Merlin the Wizard; Merlin he became.

Bio:
Merlin has always known that he is the superior being in this relationship and never lets me forget it. Even from the Bridge, he keeps me humble. There were times when he'd look at me and I'd know what he was thinking. There was the time, on a snowy road in the mountains, that my vehicle slowly slid headfirst into a small ditch. I looked at Merlin in his "traveling compartment" (no "carriers" for him!), and his look plainly said, "Well, woman, what have you gotten us into now???" I can't imagine his ever calling me "Mom" - it was always "the woman." He was not quite 11 years old when CRF took him to the Bridge; I'm pretty sure he's the head of my family over there. :)
