Arrival Story:
I found her at an animal shelter--it was love at first sight! My beloved orange tabby Malkin died in September 1996, at the age of 17. I was heartbroken. In December of that year I asked at a local pet store for the location of the county animal shelter. By some miracle I found it. I also found an orange-and-white female kitten I fell in love with. I was going to take her home with me but I was a few dollars short and they didn't take Visa or out-of-town checks. I begged them to hold onto her and promised I would be back next day with all the money. I spent all that night fretting and fuming and worrying--it is NOT, unfortunately, a no-kill shelter. I was extremely upset and anxious about this five and a half month old kitten. Would she be okay? Would she still be there the next day? The next morning I gathered the cash (and my mother) and drove straight to the shelter, miraculously finding it again. (It's in a remote location and I have no sense of direction) It was an unusually warm day, December 17, 1996, and the cats' cages had been brought outdoors into the warm sunshine. I had a little trouble finding the lone orange kitty and was getting very worried. Then I spotted her--she was there waiting for me!!! I claimed her at once and she came home with me and in just a couple of days we will celebrate the 9th anniversary of her homecoming!!!!

Amber is an only cat--she has no desire for siblings! Naturally she runs the household but she's a very benevolent dictator. She's indoors-only but has a perch near a window that we leave open except in the worst weather. She loves it! She's a very loving, happy girl--and she still loves to chase her tail!!!

It's Good to be a Goddess

My mommy has always been interested in a big word, she'll have to spell it for you--archaeology. (Goodness, what a word!!). It means the scientific study of ancient civilizations and the people who lived then.

Well, I wasn't interested in any of that (ancient history you know, MOL!) until Mommy told me that in Ancient Egypt, kitties were WORSHIPPED as GODS and GODDESSES!!!! Well---that definitely got my attention!

Yes, they had a very powerful cat-goddess named Bastet (or Bast). Cats were considered very holy and divine.

I like that--don't you??? Forget that silly slogan "cats rule'---instead say, "We were once Gods, and we have never forgotten it!!!"

No wonder our families bow down to us, become our willing slaves, and will do anything in the world for us.

WE ARE SPECIAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And we must never allow our humans to forget that!!

I have been a very sick kitty (mild hyperthyroidism and severe heart disease). Now, I HAVE gotten some excellent medical care (or so says Mommy--I think they are evil because they always want to stick me with needles--uugghhhhhhhhh!!!). BUT then I realized that I am a descendant of goddesses, and already I began to feel better.

I feel SO MUCH BETTER NOW!!!! :-) Mommy would probably say it's the medicine (awful stuff I have to take twice a day)---I say it's because goddesses cannot stay sick long.

After all---we are IMMORTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY for us!!!

Now if I could only convince Mommy of that MOL! ;-)

Hugs, purrs, and gentle headbonks,
Amber (aka Bastet hehe)
