Arrival Story:
I had some blankets and towels to donate to the SF SPCA which is where I adopted Chai. I suggested to my boyfriend that we take the donations and while were there look around to see if there was a cat that might fit in our household. Although Chai and Little Bit get along fine, Little Bit is much more playful and I thought a playmate for her might be nice. Sugar was the second cat we visited with. When I looked in her room I couldn't see her and then I looked down she was right by the door meowing at me. We went in with a volunteer and were petting her and she jumped in my lap. Then she reached up and gave me a nose rub, then went over and gave my boyfriend a nose rub and he said "Who do we make the check out to?"

Intruder!!

Oh my we had an exciting morning earlier this week.

It started out like any other weekday morning. Mom got up and switched over the cat door so Chai and I could go out. Then she let Little Bit out (she still won't use the new cat door) then went about her morning chores.

When she went into the pantry to get a sandwich bag, she noticed Little Bit waiting to come in so she opened the door. Little Bit's tail was HUGE. So Mom decided she better check out the backyard.

When she got back there Chai and I had huge tails too. And Mom quickly saw why - a large muscular Siamese looking cat was in our yard. He couldn't get out because of the cat fence (he tore part of it down getting in). Things got very tense when he ran into the breezeway - Chai was yowling and growling and she was ready to fight. Dad got me and Chai into the house and went back out to help Mom get the intruder out. The intruder was hissing and growling at Mom so they opened the door into the garage and the other one out of the garage to the street and herded him out. Good Riddance!!

Now here is where it gets kind of weird. Dad opened the cat door and I went back out in the yard. Then Chai came out and was hissing at me through the gate. Apparently she was so worked up that she thought I was the intruder cat! She kept hissing and growling and trying to attack me through the gate. Dad came down to help and brought Mom a big fluffy towel that she used to wrap up Chai and put her in the downstairs apartment.

Chai spent the day alone in the apartment and by afternoon she had calmed down. Mom repaired the cat fence and is keeping a look-out in case the intruder comes back. So far there has been no sign of him.

Special Mom Time

I love early mornings at our house. Mom gets up around 6 am and the first thing she does is open the cat doors. Rain or shine, Little Bit and Chai go racing out to the backyard. Mom makes coffee then refreshes our food and water. I have some brekkie while she goes into the front room to do her back exercises.

When she's finished she comes back in the kitchen and pours her first cup of coffee and sits down at the 'puter. I hop up on the stool beside her and it's just us - quiet and together. I love it. Mom reaches over to give me a pet or a chin scratch now and then and I purr and watch her. We savor the peace of the morning and the quiet contentment of just being together.

After a while LB and Chai come back in for some brekkie and often Dad gets up too. The spell of our quiet morning is broken by then and replaced by the fun and activity of the household as the day begins to unfold. But throughout the day, Mom thinks back to our morning time together and it makes her smile.

Sugar Bear

Welcome to our Mardi Gras Feast! My sisfurs and I have prepared some wonderful traditional foods for you to enjoy.

Not only do you get to eat some fabulous food, we have a fun game to play too!

If you want to play the game, stop by each of our diaries and see what we're cookin' up. Then answer the questions below and send them to one of us in a pmail.

1. What type of gumbo is Chai cookin' up?
2. What type of mustard does Sugar Bear use in her dish?
3. Which flavor of Tabasco is Little Bit's choice?
4. There are two masks next to Eve's dessert. What color are they?
5. What garnish does Misty use in her famous New Orleans cocktail?

Feeling saucy?

Remoulade was invented in France and it is a popular condiment in many countries. The Louisiana version of remoulade, like the local variants of roux and bordelaise sauce, is quite different from the French original. Invariably, it is red (bright red to ruddy-orange) and is usually very piquant.
