Arrival Story: Alice was found as a stray in Baltimore City in January, 2007. She was skinny, hungry, freezing, pregnant, and flea-, worm-, and ear mite-infested. We took her in and fed her a lot!

Bio: Four weeks after Alice found us, she gave birth to 7 beautiful babies via emergency C-section. The first kitten in her birth canal had horrible birth defects (his skull didn't form around the back of his head and brain) and couldn't be passed. He was a little orange tabby, and was euthanized at birth. Her remaining six thrived (3 black girls, 2 black boys, and 1 orange tabby boy); the vet said they were more the size of puppies than kittens! Once Alice woke up from her surgery, she took to her babies and was an excellent mother. She even took in an abandoned little black girl kitten that someone in our rescue group found, nursing her and grooming her like her own. Between 8 and 10 weeks of age, the kittens were adopted in groups. First, two of the black girls, now named Posey and Violet, went together. Then went the other black girl, the orange tabby boy, and the adopted girl (now named Boo, Gizmo, and Lily). The last to go were the two black boys; they are now named Sirius and Remus. All of the babies are altered now and will turn one year old on February 5, 2008.
Alice was made available for adoption the moment we took her in. In four months, we didn't receive any applications for her. When the time came to move from Maryland to California, we had to decide if we'd place her in another foster home or bring her with us. We chose to keep her, having been through so much with her already, and we are so glad. She is an unconventional beauty and a real lovebug.

Lives Remaining: 8 of 9
