She loved her Mom more than anything! Mommy, Mom, Mom, Mom
She hated getting her nails clipped, riding in the car, and ANYTHING that upset her routine.
"Green String Baby"... he started out as a fur toy (rat) that had a green plastic string that attached to wand. GSB now has about 10% of his fur left, and the plastic body is chewed through. A baby only a mother cat could love.
Favorite Nap Spot:
Martha loved the sock basket, and the floor by Mom's desk. But she really loved the bed, especially under the covers, between Mom and Dad, or down by Dad's feet.
Martha would eat anything, which is why she weighed over 19 lbs. She loved starch - chips, popcorn, bread - but could no longer have them as she was diabetic.
She had the longest tongue ever. She was very, very talkative. And she was such a lover...as her Daddy says, that much love would not fit in a smaller cat.
She chose me....I went into a pet store to get some food for my bird, and I was admiring the kittens. The owner said people would dump litters on his door step, and he wanted to get rid of them as his store was primarily a bird store. He said if I bought a bag of food, I could have one. As I was planning to go to the SPCA that weekend to get a kitten, it sounded like a good idea! I saw this large black kitten with bat ears and enormous copper eyes. I took her out of her cage and she immediately threw her arms aroud my neck, and started licking my neck and face. How could I turn down an offer like that?
Martha was diagnosed with diabetes in late 2002. With daily insulin shots (two), dietary changes, and home glucose testing, she thrived for over 2 1/2 years! During the last year of her life, we moved to a three-story townhouse, and the increase in exercise made her noticeably more spry. We were also able to lower her insulin with her increased activity level. She saved my life, so with great pleasure I saved hers.
We found out rather suddenly that our beloved baby was filled with cancer. The chronic pancreatitis that came from her diabetes had turned against her, and she could not fight any more. We didn't want her to suffer, and we held her as she passed away on May 19, 2005, at the age of 15.
We will love you forever, my darling girl. We miss you so.
