I'm finding this diary entry very difficult as I don't find it easy to go to my dear Jack's page. He died so unexpectedly and I still can't quite believe I'll never see him here again.
I took Jack to the Vets on Monday night as he was lethargic all day and wasn't interested in his food at all. He had a thorough examination and the only thing Terry could determine was that his temperature was high. He gave him an antibiotic and injection to bring his temperature down and felt he'd be feeling much better and eating in 24 hours. On Tuesday teatime he seemed much improved and, with coaxing and petting, he ate some minced chicken. I went to bed happy that he was on the mend and, although he didn't come to bed with me as usual, he seemed much more relaxed. At almost Midnight I heard Jack screaming in the back bedroom and went in straightaway, he had been sick and was obviously in pain. I tried to comfort him but he didn't want to know. I phoned Terry's mobile and he came as soon as he could, within an hour, but by the time he arrived Jack had passed away.
I don't want a post-mortem as it won't bring Jack back and would rather spend the money on the kitties.
I miss him so much and just ache to hold him again.
Thankyou so much to all our friends for the lovely messages and gifts, which are a great comfort.

Thankyou to Chandler Ray and family for this lovely poem:-
Fly free, fly high
For once again you will be spry
Nap upon the silky clouds
Today we gather with our heads bowed
Snuggling down in catnip fields
Until your wings can be revealed
Fly high, fly free

I don't have much computer time these days as mum is needing more care with her dementia and a friend needs help. I read updates and messages and try to keep up with furriends.

My kitties have received gifts for birthdays, pirate flags etc. and I haven't acknowledged them, the latest being Queenie's birthday. Also, Jack's human sister was married last Saturday. It was such a happy, relaxed, informal day and helped to lift our spirits. I look at all the gifts and messages and everyone is appreciated so much. Please accept my apologies for not sending thankyous.

Jack's ashes are ready to collect from the Vets but I can't face it just yet, although I want him home where he belongs.

Much love to you All from Jack and Mum. xxxx

Yes, today is my Birthday!!! I'm furry excited 'cos I know I'll be getting treats from Mum! I wonder what it will be?? I know she's got some chicken in the fridge so I'm hoping I'll get some of that and lots of brushing, which I just love!!

My dear furriends Humphrey, Roger and Greta have baked me a beautiful chocolate cake and it tastes as yummy as it looks! nom nom... Thankyou to them for my lovely red heart too!

It's almost 12 months since I was diagnosed with chronic renal failure and Mum didn't think I would make it to my next birthday but I take my meds like the good boy that I am and I'm doing really well! I've put some weight on and my coat is shiny again. Mum is so pleased with my progress!

I hope you're all having as wonderful weekend as I am!

Love & purrs
Jack

I've been furry poorly but I'm feeling much better now!!!!

About a month ago I contracted an upper respiratory tract infection but Mum didn't tell my furriends because she felt all our diary entries were getting a bit depressing and we didn't really want that.

Today she told our furriends about Lucy not being well and felt guilty because she hadn't done the same about me - she does love all of us equally and very much though!!

It took 2 courses of antibiotics to make me feel better and now, after almost a month, I've finally stopped sneezing and I'm eating better! It was awful having to take my Fortekor pills for my crf whilst I was sneezing and congested but I'm such a good boy and easy to give pills to.

Please purr for us - that none of my brofurs and sisfurs start with it now. Terry, our vet, was surprised that Lucy did so long after I started.

Mum promises that she'll write more funny diaries for us in future - after all, with all my brofurs and sisfurs, there's always some silly antic which makes Mum laugh and laugh every day!!

Love and purrs (and a Very Happy Mother's Day to all our furriends)!

Whoopee! I'm playing the Christmas Tag Game!!!!

My brofur Alfie was tagged by Ra but he's already played this game so he asked me to play instead. I'm furry excited 'cos I've never played a tag game before! Here goes...........

1 do you belive in santa paws? why

Of course. Why else would Mum put out a glass of wine and a mince pie on Christmas Eve for Santa and a carrot for Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer!!

2.have you been naughty or nice?

I have never ever been naughty - I'm one laid-back kittie and would never dream of stealing food or anything else like my naughty sisfurs Queenie and Rosie! I also snuggle up to Mum and Alfie on Mum's bed at night. She said I'm just like a little hot water bottle!

3.what would you like santa paws to bring you? why

I'd like a catnip mouse and some tuna-in-spring water. I don't like cat treats very much!

4.what is you favorite christmas carol.

It is "It came Upon the Midnight Clear" - the words are lovely, especially about the ones calling for Peace on Earth. It was written in 1849.

It came upon the midnight clear,
That glorious song of old,
From angels bending near the earth,
To touch their harps of gold;
"Peace on the earth, good will to men,
From heaven’s all gracious King."
The world in solemn stillness lay,
To hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come,
With peaceful wings unfurl
And still their heavenly music floats,
O'er all the weary world.
Above its sad and lowly plains,
They bend on hovering wing
And ever o'er its Babel sounds,
The blessed angels sing.

Yet with the woes of sin and strife,
The world has suffered long;
Beneath the angel-strain have rolled,
Two thousand years of wrong;
And man, at war with man, hears not,
The love song which they bring:
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
And hear the angels sing.

And ye, beneath life's crushing load,
Whose forms are bending low
Who toil along the climbing way
With painful steps and slow
Look now! for glad and golden hours
Come swiftly on the wing
O rest beside the weary road
And hear the angels sing.

For lo! the days are hastening on,
By prophet bards foretold,
When, with the ever-circling years,
Shall come the Age of Gold;
When peace shall over all the earth,
Its ancient splendors fling,
And all the world give back the song,
Which now the angels sing.

5 what is your favorite movie.

Its "Elf" starring Will Ferrell & James Caan. It was on the telly last Christmas and made us all laugh so much!

I have tagged any of my friends who would like to play. Please do - it's good fun!!

Love & purrs
Jack

I had to go to the V E T S !!!!

I noticed last week that Jack was drinking more water than usual (he's always been a big drinker from being a kitten) and that he was very lethargic. At first I put it down to the heatwave and abnormally high temperatures. He didn't even want to be brushed, which he adores!

I decided to take him to the vets for his annual check up 3 months early and I'm so glad I did.

He had a good physical examination and Terry, our vet, said one of his kidneys didn't feel too good and he was breathing quicker than he should, even allowing for the stress of being at the vets.

Terry said he was almost 100% sure that he had chronic renal failure and did I have pet insurance? I don't have any of my cats insured 'cos with 13 it makes more sense to put money away weekly than pay approx. £130 per month for insurance, which I try to do!

He said that if I'd had insurance he would have taken blood tests, x-rays, ultrasound scans etc. but felt sure that Jack would do well on medication instead. Jack's been prescribed with Fortekor tablets (1 per day) which will take the stress off Jack's kidneys and heart and I'll take him back in 2 weeks for another check up and then if Terry feels it necessary I'll have the tests done. The tests etc. will cost £400 plus, but, as all cat lovers know, we always manage to find the money somehow!

After taking the tablets for 7 days Jack seems so much better. He has more energy, his coat is starting to shine again and he's back to jumping on the scratching post and shouting at me to hurry up and brush him!!

I've never had any of my cats on Fortekor or with crf at such a young age (Jack's 13 but I don't consider it old) and would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Jennifer (Jack's mum)

It's my 13th Birthday today and my Mum Forgot!!!!

I got up this morning, really excited because I'm a teenager today and waited for mum to give me a hug and wish me Happy Birthday.

She just said "Morning sweethearts" - which she says to us all every morning - and then re-filled our dishes with Hills and put the kettle on for her morning cuppa. She then put her coat on and went to see her human mum and make breakfast for her.

About an hour later she came back - still no "Happy Birthday Jack". I felt so neglected so I went for a walk in the garden.

After about 10 minutes she came into the garden and carried me inside, gave me a big hug and a kiss and wished me Happy Birthday. I was so happy then and jumped on top of the scratching post and asked her to give me a brush. She brushed me for ages and then told me she had just logged into her computer and there was a message from Catster wishing me a Happy Birthday, with a lovely cake, treats and 5 paws for my page!!!

I've forgiven her now 'cos we had the usual special Birthday tea in my honour - tuna in spring water or gourmet chicken cat food. I chose the tuna! yum yum.

Please no gifts for my page 'cos we're a big family and there always seems to be one of us celebrating a birthday or Bridge anniversary and mum always give us a diamond or emerald for our birthdays or Bridge dates.

Love & purrs
A very contented Jack

MY FIRST DIARY - I'VE BEEN TAGGED!

June 3rd 2008 2:22 pm

At long last mum is starting me a diary - whoopee - and it's because I've been tagged by my doggie friend Greta to play with her - (thankyou Greta)!

4 things I like to do:-

1. I like to sleep on mum's bed at night and I have to touch her arm with my right paw.

2. I like to play inside the cat house in the garden. It's like a children's log cabin with carpet in, beds, scratching post and toys, especially in summer when the windows are open.

3. I like my sister Guinevere - she's very timid and never goes out to play but I keep her company and sleep by her bed sometimes.

4. I like to chase Tigger up the stairs and into the back bedroom and wish he'd just stay there. I just love my mum to comb and brush me and jump on the cat tree and shout at mum, or any visitors I know, to do the deed and now Tigger wants to be combed at the same time and it really annoys me - so that's why I have to chase him and get him out of the way!
------------------------------

4 places I'd love to be:-

1. On the cat tree being combed and brushed every hour!

2. In a tuna canning factory - but not for too long!

3. In a clean bed every night - I love it when mum changes her bedlinen and sniff at it before I get into bed!

4. I can't really think of anywhere else - I just love my home.
---------------------------------

4 things I love to eat:-

1. Hill's Science Diet Chicken flavour.

2. Tuna in spring water.

3. Purina Salmon & Rice.

4. A morsel of cheese occasionally.

---------------------------------

I'd now like to tag 4 of my friends and hope they'll play the game with me. I'll pawmail them and ask them.

They are:-

Micini # 651358
Flash # 275444
Sammy # 580770
Zorilla # 155436
