Arrival Story:
Felix was one of a litter born to a feral cat living by a coworker's apartment. One day, the adverturesome tyke climbed the stairs to my coworker's 2nd-floor porch, then fell off and broke his nose. My coworker heard him crying & took him in to the vet, then brought him home & cleaned him up. She caught the rest of the litter and brought the whole brood in to work one day to find homes. She asked me to take Felix (who she called "Broken Nose") since she knew I had experience with cats. At the end of the day, only the runt of the litter had not been adopted, so I ended up with that little girl (Fanny) as well as Felix.

Bio:
Felix and Fanny are named after Felix & Fanny Mendelssohn, brother/sister composers from 19th-century Germany. Felix used to be so shy we were convinced he lived in another dimension and only popped into our world at mealtimes. Fanny would crawl into the lap of anyone who happened to be sitting in her favorite chair, whether she had met them or not. UPDATE 11/28/08: Felix passed to the Rainbow Bridge today at the age of 19 years, 7 months. He had been losing weight for several months, but with medication would improve for awhile, then go downhill for awhile. This week he stopped eating again and I was having to syringe feed him, which he didn't appreciate. Yesterday, Thanksgiving Day, he also stopped drinking and became upset whenever I tried to squirt a little water into his mouth. I cancelled holiday plans and lay on the bed all afternoon and evening holding him. Is it only a coincidence that at 3pm the local classical radio station played Fanny Mendelssohn's "Overture" followed immediately by Felix Mendelssohn's "Scottish Symphonhy"? This morning (11/28) I took him in to the vet to be assisted in his journey to the Rainbow Bridge to join littermate Fanny and brofurs Junior and Alex.

I hadn't gotten to visit the "Hey, You Look Like Me" group fur awhile, so when I went by the other day I made sure to try out all the games. Lo and behold, I answered the "Wheel of Furtune" puzzle with "Even the stupidest cat seems to know more than any dog" -- and it was RIGHT!! And what a true saying it is! MOL!! As an award fur my answer, Simon sent me a lovely Heart rosette!! Actually TWO Heart rosettes with identical messages! We suspect the fleas at Catster HQ may have had something to do with the second one! MOL! If so, thank you, fleas!! MOL MOL!! Now I can't wait fur the next puzzle to go up! *shivers in anticipation*

I was watching Meowmi today from the Bridge. . . she took several of the fosters to an adoption show, and THREE were adopted almost immediately! Hope, Penny, and Penelope! She was glad that they are getting good homes, but on her drive home I saw she had tears streaming down her cheeks because she was so attached to them. . . even though she knows she has to let the fosters go, it's hard. . .

Happy Birthday, Felix!

Today is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn! No, not me - the composer for whom I was named! I'm pretty thrilled to be in the company of such an august personage!
