Arrival Story:
Oscar was relinquished to the humane society that I worked for. He was so shy, but I was immediately taken by his inquisitive eyes and loving expression. He was adopted into a home, only to be returned because "he hid under the bed all day." He also became very stressed and refused to eat on his own. Knowing Oscar, I knew he just needed someone with patience and I took him home to nurse him back to health. It took nearly six months for Oscar to eat on his own, and by then I knew he felt safe with me and I was happy to keep him. Oscar was at least 6-7 years when I adopted him and I have had no problems with him getting along with other pets: just goes to show that a shy, older cat can make a great "new" cat!
Bio:
Poor Oscar came to the humane society with severely matted fur. We normally would groom animals ourselves, but the kindly people at PETsMART shaved him for free. As gross as it sounds, I actually kept a long strip of matted fur to show his "future" owners, of course, his "future" owner is me - but I digress. He hates being brushed and I think his past owners were not so much neglecting him as letting him have his way. Oscar is still very skiddish and runs away at the slightest sound or movement, but anyone who sits quietly will be rewarded with his company.
