Arrival Story: When we moved here in October of 2000, i noticed there were feral cats here at the marina. For awhile they were being fed but soon that stopped so i started feeding Mama and her 2 kittens. That was 7 years ago now. Those kittens have gone to the Bridge, but Mama has had many litters since.
Currently there are Mini and Kola, her youngest children born last Mothers Day...May 13, 07.
She had a litter of 4 on 11.03.07 but sadly they didnt make it. They were Inky, Jet, Patches and Karma. RIP sweet babies.
Then there is Cookies daughter Oreo( born April 04) who has babies Domino and Moo. They were born in June 07.
Also Mamas sons Eddy(born April 04), Sonny and Magic(born April 06) who come and go but always check in at least once a week.
They are a very close knit family that currently live in heated igloos at the marina.
It is with unbearable sadness that i add that on 2.14.08 Domino was struck by a truck and killed after being chased into the street by a cat hater. :(...Rest in Peace, my sweet Domino. i will love you forever.
On this sad day, 6.18.08, Sonny came home after being gone for about a week. He was in terrible shape and i helped him to the Bridge. Rest in Peace, my sweet Sonny Boy. i will always love you.
On a happier note, on April 20, i caught MiniMe and brought her inside to live with us...furever. She is a true miracle...she fit right in! Everyone loves Mini, a real success story!
Karma and Tux were born on 4.30.08. At the end of August they contracted an URI. Tux disappeared and Karma was rescued on 9.6.08 and lives inside with the rest of the Archangel Crew.
On 7.16.08 Mama gave birth to 5 orange babies. Our beloved Sonny(RIP) was the Dad. UPDATE: Only 3 of the orangies survived...Sonnie, Zippie and Ginger.
9.14.08 Kola is rescued due to an URI and dehydration. She is inside now and loves it!
On 9.24.08 i rescued Shadow and her 6 babies. 3 were adopted and we kept Amelia, Maggie and Bean, who all have their own Catster pages.
Mama had a winter baby...probably more than one, but only a little dark black and orange tortie girl survived. We think she was born on March 1st and have named her Sola(mente).
Mama did it again. On June 30/July 1, 2009 she returned no longer pregnant! We wont know for a few weeks till she brings them to us who they are or how many...
Well, we got our answer. There are a total of 8. Oreo was killed so Mama took care of all the babies until they were rescued on 8.3.09.
Mama is playing happily with her daughter Sola now, glad to be free of her large burden. Good job Mama, but we promise this is the last. Oreo is gone and Mama will be T,N,R asap.
In October 09, i found the other tuxedo kitten wandering around outside. She was part of the kitten invasion so we brought her in with us. Her name is Roxy!
On March 23, 2010, Mama gave birth AGAIN. She hasnt let us see them yet but im sure by the middle of May we will see them.
On April 9th Sola gave birth to 4 babies that we know of. Sadly on 4.13.10, Sola brought 2 tortie girls to us, one at a time, dead. i think she still has a buff and an orange, but im not sure they survived. Maybe Mama is taking care of them and we will know in about a month. Update: We now know that none of Sola's babies survived and we are now planning to catch her and bring her inside.
1.29.11 A lot has happened since i last updated. On May 25, Mama gave birth to one orange & white boy. On July 2, she left him for us to find. His name is Gizmo. Then on July 19, my husband just happened to be walking up the ramp near where we found Gizmo and he saw a tuxedo girl run out. He called me and i caught her...Widget is her name and she has a purrfect white heart on her chest. They are both inside with us.
There is more!! On October 30, 2010 Mama, one by one, carried 3 babies in her mouth down to our boat and deposited them in a carrier on the front of our houseboat! i think they were born on September 26, 2010. Max is a handsome orange & white boy with swirls in his coat, Sugar is a black and orange tortie girl and Mila is a tabbie and white girl. We kept Sugar & Max and Mila was adopted by a very good furiend of ours who lives on Long Island. All are doing very well.
Now the remaining 4 outside--Mama, Zippie, Ginger and Sola live right outside our door in heated carriers. Hopefully soon we will be able to get them inside. Sadly Sonnie disappeared around September 14th. He was the brother of Zippie and Ginger and only 2 years old. We hope he found a new home.
A lot has happened. Sola, Mamas daughter had a litter of 5 on March 12, 2012.
On October 29, 2011 we had a freak snow storm and Mama and Solas son Oliver came inside the boat! After being outside for 12 years Mama is inside and safe...no more kittens. Shortly thereafter Zippie was in a carrier on the front of the boat and i was able to close the door and bring him inside. This just left Sola and Ginger outside. Ginger left on March 11, 2012 and as of this writing (8.25.12) he has not returned. On May 6, our trapping mission was complete--Sola and her 5 kittens are inside. They are Jack, Jill, Ducky, Dots and Catmandu. They are doing very well and we have now kept our promise to Mama to care for her and all her offspring. Phew!!
Bio: Hello everycat. My name is Mama...because i am the mama of all the cats here!! MOL. Mommy wants to neuter me but i am too smart. i know when shes trying to catch me and so far i have avoided her for 7 years!
We are very grateful to Mommy and Daddy because since they have been around, me and my kits have never been hungry again. i know they love me and my family, but i just dont trust humans...maybe that will change someday...you never know!
i have new news...early in April i gave birth to 2 kittens. They have been named Karma, a calico, and Tux, a black n white beauty(see photo)...not sure of Tux's gender yet though...stay tuned! Tux was a little boy but sadly hasnt been seen since 8.31.08.
Mama gave birth to a litter some time in late February and on 3.14.09 she brought the only surviving kitten to us. Because there is just her, we have named her Sola(mente).
i did it again...im getting tired. i delivered my newest babies on 6.30/7.1.09. im not telling how many just yet!
Sadly, we lost Oreo on 7.21.09 to a car accident. We think she was chased into the street by an evil guy...just like her son Domino(RIP) was in 08. Yesterday, 7.26.09, we found a baby, Lucky Lizzy, who must be Oreo's daughter. Rest in Peace, my sweet Oreo, you deserved so much better.
On August 1, 2009 the kitten invasion began. Oreo and i gave birth around the same exact time and between the two of us we had 8 babies. On August 3, 2009, Mom, Dad & Margaret rescued 5 babies. The next day they took the remaining baby that they left behind in case there were any more under the house. In the morning, they snatched her up too because there were no more babies. Including Lizzy, there are 8. On August 4, 09, Mom & Dad took 5 babies to the New Rochelle Humane Society so they can find their furever homes. Mom & Dad kept 2, Lizzy and a little boy tuxedo they have named Oareo, after his momma Oreo(RIP Sweet Girl). On 10.3.09 Mom found the other tuxie girl wandering on the rocks. She took her inside and she now belongs to that big happy furmily. They have named her Roxy!
On May 25, 2010 i had another litter...only one orange/white tabby boy survived. On 7.2.10 i knew i needed help with him, so i left him in a place where i knew the food people would find him. They did!! i have heard he is doing very well inside with them...minus the fleas!
They named him Gizmo Quinn. My daughter Sola had a baby on 6.20.10, a tuxie girl. On 7.19.10 the food people found her and took her inside.
Her name is Widget and she is so sweet. She is doing well.
Then on 9.26.10 i had hopefully my last litter...3. One orange/white boy they named Max, a tortie girl named Sugar and a tortie/white girl named Mila. i carried them down to their houseboat and left them in a carrier. i know they will take excellent care of them. They kept Sugar and Max and Mila lives with a very good friend of theirs where she has 3 other sisters to play with!
It doesnt end there! On March 11, 11 Sola have birth to 5 babies. 6 weeks later she brought us Sweet Pea and Oliver, 2 orange tabbies. Then she started acting weird and has split from the family. Mama, Zippie, Oliver, Sweet Pea and Ginger now live outside our boat.
On August 12, 11 i had another litter. 3 this time but i left my orange girl Sailor in the bilge of a boat beacause im too old to care for 3. Mom found her and brought her back to me. i took her but the next day abandoned her again on a different boat. Its a miracle Mom found her. he was 2 weeks old and weighed 4ozs. Mom bottle fed her. Then On September 23 Candy ran up the screen door to get Moms attention. Simon was stuck on the dock so Mom got the last two.
So i, Mama, have been living outside with Oliver and Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea got sick in early October, Mom brought him inside and he died overnight. On October 29, 2011 there was a fluke snowstorm and Dad lured Mama and Oliver inside! After 12 years Mama is inside!! Then a few days later Mom got Zippie so now its just Sola and Ginger outside.
i, Mama, am retired for good!
As of May 6, 2012 all the ferals have been trapped. Sola and her on Jackson were caught the first day, the 2nd day we got a Tortie, Ducky, and an orange boy, Catmandu. The 3rd day was frustrating because no one went in the traps but day 4 we got the rest...another black baby, a girl named Jillian and another Tortie named Dots.
Mom made a promise to save me and all my kits and now she has accomplished that goal. We love you Mom & Dad.
i thought it was about time i started a diary, so here is my first entry.
i am Mama and i live outside at a marina. i used to be the watchcat for a moving supply company, but when they moved out, they forgot to take me with them...what were they thinking?
i was a bit upset by this, considering that i had 2 kits to take care of, but before long my Mom and Dad came along and assured me that i should not worry...hmmmm.
well folks, that was in 2000!
sadly, those 2 kits are both at the Bridge...but im still here.
i love my Mom and Dad, who provide very well for me outside. i am a WILD GIRL and cannot be tamed...or neutered!
i am too smart for a trap and M&D dont want to lose my trust by netting me so i remain a kitten machine.
i have had many litters over the last 8 years and M&D continue to accept my kits in stride...they have taken 3 of my babies inside to live with them, for which i am eternally grateful.
this brings me to today...
i gave birth to my latest baby...a lone little girl that M&D named Solamente, or Sola. She is just 3 weeks old as of this writing and is doing great. she is the wee one in my main picture with me...see how she is even posed like me!
her 3 orange siblings, Sonnie, Zippie and Ginger all help me care for her, which i really appreciate as im not getting any younger. i am about 10, they think.
i have a feeling that this Spring i will be taking a trip to the v-e-t...we shall see...
i am happy to be a part of my loving family...even if it is from afar. i can still feel the love...
