Arrival Story: Wow this is a long complicated story... but here it goes. ------------------My husband and I had only been married 10 months. We moved from a small city in North Dakota to the GIANT metropolis of Minneapolis. A little over whelming to say the least. I kept telling him, "I'm going to die... people drive so fast here even on snow. I hated all the traffic when we first moved here. --------------------------------
Then We got into an accident ( a fender bender really ) the car in front of us had no brake lights, and was stopped at a light, but the light has just turned green as we approached them. So we thought they were moving.... We were WRONG. So we rear ended them. Their car was fine , it was one of those old cars that still had the steel and chrome bumpers. Their car got a scratch. Our car had to be towed. The hood was crunched, and the radiator cracked. We were newly weds and had NO money to fix a car. ---------------------------------T hen all of a sudden this guy walks up to us and said he saw the accident, and that he fixes car on the side. He said he pulled the parts himself form a junk yard so they were cheap, and that he didn't charge much to put them in. ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- --------
Well that seemed like a pretty good deal to us. He lived near by, so he asked us if we wanted to come over and talk about getting our car fixed.
His pregnant girlfriend, and their other children were all screaming, their apartment wasn't very big. And here comes the good part ...... !!!!!!!!************************** ********************************** ********************************** ******
They had 2 young kittens. I said "Oh you have 2 kittens (with a long drawn out tttteenns.... ) oo oo oo". And in a smartass obnoxious tone they guy said " do ya want one : ? I looked at my husband who knows I love cats, & he has a scowl on his face.( he is a dog person) He said our apartment doesn't let us have pets. So that was the end of the :kitten" discussion for about week or two. ---------------------------------- ---------------------------------- -----
We had to leave our car there to get fixed. I got to see the kittens again, and he still asked if I wanted one. I told him I do, but I'll have to talk my husband into it.
I went home and said "please please please please please please please please" about a bazillion times and he finally gave in. We just couldn't let the landlords know that we had a cat. ********************************** **********************************
I named her Smokey cuz her legs were brown smoked color. When we told the landlords we were going to move out they said they needed the key to show our apartment.... UH OH !!! We told them we were cat sitting for a friend who was out of town... They didn't buy our story, but since we were moving anyway, there wasn't 't much they could do about it.
Our next apartment was a building especially for cats. !!!! YEA******************************* ********************************** ******
Smokey had been our only child for 19 years, until I found out about the Siberian Breed of Cats. I found a breeder in my area and got of the waiting list, and about a year ago, I got my baby Mishka. Mishka arrived at our home on October 14th, 2006 ----------------
Let's just say that the energy level of a kitten and the energy level of a 20 year old cat are not compatible. Mishka tried and tried again to be Smokey's BFF. but it didn't happen, Smokey was too set in her ways, (with just cause). They usually avoid each other unless Mishka went into a "spaz-attack-anything " mode. Then Smokey being Siamese (known for their VOCAL-NESS) lets out a howl ........... , like " I'm not having fun" here will someone rescue me !!! but that had been happening less and less. I think Mishka knew to leave Smokey alone for a while
Smokey went down hill pretty fast these last 3 weeks, she was refusing to eat. Having a hard time moving, standing, or walking.************************** ********************************** ******
We met by accident .... Literally a real accident brought us together. It must have been fate that I was to be her furr-ever mommy. ---------------------------------- ----------------I just wish I could have saved the other kitten(her sister) as well. This couple didn't have much money, then, they only had one kid, and they had twins on the way. I felt bad that I couldn't rescue the other kitty from that horrible situation. But Smokey sure had a wonderful, loved, adored life. ----------------------Smokey was one of those Siamese Cats that only liked one person... and that person was (me)mommy, but later in her life she and my husband really got close.-------------------- He would tell me about their early morning hassock petting and combing sessions. Which he said was like a ritual, she would jump up on the hassock EVERY DAY , and REQUIRED the petting before he could leave for work. ********************************** ********************************** ************WE MISS YOU ALREADY Smokey, Love Mommy, Daddy and Mishka !!!
Bio: Today Jan. 17, 2008 at 6:30 PM Smokey Crossed over the Bridge. She was such a trooper. Smokey wanted so badly to stay with us longer, but old age got the best of her body, she went peacefully...
I am so glad she was in our lives for over 20 years !-------------------------------
We are going to keep some of her ashes here at home, and scatter some by our cabin near Fergus Falls, MN. Smokey loved being at the cabin. It was so restful, and quiet up there. She would walk out on the dock(over the water) and step on to the pontoon boat,,, Like HEY "lets go for a ride " and she did. She liked riding on the pontoon boat. ***************------------------- ------------------

Health: She beat having hyper- tyroidism Then she developed diabetes. She had that about 3 years. then all of a sudden quit being diabetic. She has now been diabetic free for about 7 years. She is getting more frail, and has been having trouble eating lately. She is also having difficulty walking, her back legs are skin and bones. We had over 20 Great years together, I still wish we had had more time. Love Mommy !! ***********************************************
