Arrival Story:
I came home one day (Feb. 98) to find a scared cat hiding behind the toaster oven. Girlfriend had just picked Pastel up from local rescue group. Pastel settled in nicely, but we were worried because cats weren't allowed in our apartment. About 6 weeks later we had landlord's curt note on the door: "You go or cat goes - 3 days." Pastel enjoyed sitting on the warm kitchen windowsill when we were gon and got herself 'busted'. Fortunately I had a dumpy 1-person office as I was working for an east coast startup company but residing in California. Pastel could stay there, and it was a good comfortable home; office neighbors loved to visit her, and she would stick her paw out from under the door to play with other office renters when I was out. And she was great company when I (often) worked late. Pastel also enjoyed visits to my parents' apartment nearby: my late dad, never a cat fan before, loved to have Pastel visit: even during the workweek, he'd call me daily to ask how the cat was doing. Eventually GF and I moved apart in 1999; we both got apartments not too far away, and where cats were allowed. Since we both loved Pastel and agreed that Pastel would always have a good home, Pastel became a 'joint custody' cat and would move back & forth every couple of weeks or so - sometimes up to 6-8 weeks - depending on mutual travel & work schedules. Pastel doesn't mind; she knows she has multiple nice homes and settles quickly between moves. In 2000, after my (late) dad became ill, I used to take Pastel to visit him on weekends when he was in a nursing/care home - that really brightened his day. We're continuing this even now that I've bought a townhome and Pastel's homes are 25+ miles apart. She travels very well, and also really enjoys staying with my mother when both her 'parents' are out of town. Pastel has just turned 7 and is in excellent health. Look forward to many many more years of her wonderful company and antics.

Bio:
This is 'in memoriam' of Pastel's (and my) great and good friend, the late Dave Hill. Dave's communication engineering business had an adjoining office to mine and he quickly became friends with Pastel and myself. A brilliant radio engineer and consummate salesman, Dave was always impeccably and expensively dressed -- but he'd flop down on the floor like a 5 year-old to play with Pastel, and not care that his wonderfully bespoke suit gathered fine white cat hair. (I later kept a lint roller in my office for this reason.) He'd often visit both of us, bring over $30/oz Japanese green tea and Archway cookies - we'd both take a break and have wide-ranging talks about classical music, communications gear, firearms, and cats. We miss you, Dave!
