Arrival Story: A plumber neighbor of mine found a tiny wild kitten on a construction site. He came over to my house carrying a cardboard box and said "Look what I found!" He reached in to pick him up and the kitten sunk his teeth into his hand and shredded his arm. I think my neighbor had planned to adopt him and was just showing him to me, but when that happened, he said "He's all yours!!!!"
Monkey got his name from that incident, because he looked like a wild little monkey with his mouth opened and teeth bared.

Bio: Monkey was a tough ol' cat. He made it to age 19 with no major illnesses or operations (except for being neutered) For most of his life, I was the only person who could approach him, the only person he felt comfortable around enough to relax and be himself and come out of hiding. What finally took him from me was squamous cell carcinoma of the jaw...cancer. The vet said his bloodwork and x-rays showed that he was in amazingly good shape for his advanced age. As the cancer progressed, it ate away one side of his jaw, making it difficult to impossible for him to eat or drink. I held off for two weeks after the diagnosis, until it was obvious that his quality of life was only going to decline further. I held him in my arms and told him to remember that I loved him as he received the final injection on June 20, 2003. I am grateful that he had such a long, healthy life and that I was able to spend the quality time with him in his last days.
