Arrival Story:
Kiki was my first ever cat! I was 16 years old in 1986 when I took her home. She was born to a grey tabby with white whose mom was a feral cat who wasn't able to be socialized. I think her dad was a long-haired Siamese-looking cat. She was born around late June/early July in 1986. Kiki's mom Susie was born at my great-grandma's grocery store in Mississippi and I managed to socialize her.
Bio:
Kiki had a great and exciting life! Lots of ups and downs. She was born at my grandparents' house down the road from the grocery store. The first time I saw her was on July 4th, 1986. It was my grandpa's birthday. Two days later, I went to visit and her ears were abused. I won't say how on here though. That's why they are so small. We know who did it, but we couldn't prove it or even prove if it really happened like we think. She was so sick, so I took her home and fed her with a dropper. I 'll always regret that I didn't take Susie too. When she was 5, we believe that our next-door-neighbor kicked her. At first we thought she was hit by a car or by some object, like a bat, but the vet said she was kicked underneath her back legs and her pelvis and hips were separated. She couldn't walk for two weeks, but she recovered well. We never found out what really happened in either case. She moved with me to Florida and later on to Texas. She was a gorgeous long-haired harlequin cat with big green dinner-plate sized eyes (as I called them). Her full name was Kiki Astra the Imperial Duchess of Sheba. There's a whole story to that name! No birthday cake was ever safe from Kiki! We'd have to put it on a cake stand on a high countertop, but she'd still find a way to reach the cake! Later, we'd see little tongue marks in the frosting. (: Once she climbed the curtain to the door of the back porch while my mom was hanging clothes out to dry and she tried to jump on her when she opened the door! But Kiki missed and landed on the floor. Another time, my mom was peeling shrimp to cook and Kiki jumped on the counter while my mom wasn't looking and grabbed a whole mouthful of shrimp! Kiki did some crazy things! I made the hardest and most heart-breaking decision to let her go to the Rainbow Bridge on April 27, 2000. She would have been 14 years in two more months. She had been suffering with mast cell tumors for a year. She had two separate surgeries in 6 months to remove 5 tumors. Those all came back negative for cancer. Our vet said that she'd heard of only two other cases like Kiki's. On Thanksgiving Day, 1999, I found a golf-ball-sized tumor under her left leg. Then she quickly developed more tumors. We opted not to have an ultra sound or another surgery done since she had already been through so much, and the vet said that one or more of the new tumors may have been cancerous. She was one tough kitty! She fought every step of the way even when we had to give her baths everyday. I had her cremated and she is in a nice wooden box with a gold nameplate and she sits on top of the tv in the living room so she can watch all of us. She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and lived in Pensacola, Fl for two years, then Texas until she went to the Rainbow Bridge. I wish I would have had a digital camera when Kiki was still with us! She is sorely missed.
