Still Missing Sweet United

It's been a few months since little United left us... we still think of him and miss him dearly.

He was a sweet and wonderful who brought a lot of joy into our lives. We pray and hope that we gave him as good of a life as possible while he was in our care.

FIP is a horrible, horrible disease.

Our hearts go out to all the families that endure this terrible virus.

If you have a cat fighting FIP, we invite you to write us and we'll give what support we can and pass along the information we learned during our battle. We do believe that if you catch FIP early enough there is treatment that can help if you have dry FIP.

Love and peace to you, Little United. Please watch over all the other kittens who are fighting FIP here on earth.

Many Thanks

Your thoughts and prayers for United and for us are very much appreciated.

It was time for United to leave us and be healthy. I'm doing okay. I know he was a happy kitten while he was with us. He was very loved and I believe that he knows that.

Thank you again and most sincerely for your kind thoughts.

The Battle is Over...

The past four days have been very difficult. United has been quickly deterioriating. Just no strength, no coordination, not very alert.
The medicines weren't helping anymore.

Yesterday (Monday) he could no longer stand on his own for more than a few steps at a time.

It was a good fight. But it is time to admit defeat.

God, please send your angels to greet our kitten as his body leaves our world and his soul enters your kingdom. Please be with United and let him feel your peace and comfort and know he is dearly loved. And Lord please be with us that we can be glad to have known and loved little United over these few months.

United died on my lap in the car on the way to the vet to be put down.

He is out of pain. He is in peace.

Still doing well

United is not better but not worse

He's up and moving around a little bit. He'll follow people from room to room when we're home; but he'll be in the same spot from when you leave until you come home. He is grooming himself consistently these days and we take that as a very good sign.

He's eating a little dry food on his own; but just a few pieces at a time. We've been using the syringe to feed him baby food, mashed up canned food, and thick chicken broth. And also using a dropper to give him water and occassionally milk just to keep him hydrated.

He doesn't have signs of a fever, his eyes are almost completely clear now.

It's just moving slowly and seeming weak...

We're praying that he fully recovers and grows up big and strong. We're also very thankful that he seems happy and that we have the opportunity to love him!

huh, I thought United was sick...

United is doing really well!!

I'm hand feeding him and starting to think he's just being spoiled and not eating so we have to pay special attention to him.

He is still much slower and less active than Chelsea, but he follows people from room to room, jumps on the couch or the bed to snuggle, grooms himself regularly, etc.

No signs of the fever in quite some time now...
He has even been spotted PLAYING!!

I'm so glad he's happy and seems to be doing well these days!

The purrs and prayers help. Many, many thanks to everyone who has been encouraging me through these past couple months.

Vet Report

Just got off a phone call with our vet.

Based on the last round of bloodwork (March 1st) his Coronavirus titers were higher than when originally diagnosed, but no other part of his body has been affected (yeah!).

United is doing quite well! He won't eat on his own, but begs to be fed - - baby food through a dropper. He is alert and friendly and grooming himself and generally doing fine. No signs of a fever in a week now.

We are going to stop the antibiotics once we finish what we have. He will stay on the twice daily Interferion, and the 3 x/day eye drops. And we're lowering his dose of the prednisolone and will try to wean him off that over 3 or 4 weeks.

The exciting piece of that is that we now expect United to be around 3 or 4 weeks!!

The purrs and prayers help!

Tuesday evening United started to perk up a bit.

Since then he has at least nibbled at his meals on his own. We do force feed him a little bit when he doesn't eat on his own; but it's much more pleasant when he eats out of his bowl.

He has been much more alert and friendly the past 3 days. He again is up climbing on furniture and moving around with ease.

It's so nice to see him happy!

Thank you (again) with sincere gratitude for the rosettes, messages, and all of your purrs and prayers.

United is such a sweet and loving kitten and we are so glad we know him and can enjoy his good days with him.

Better!

Tuesday night United ate a bit on his own (!!!)

He was very alert and affectionate. Wednesday morning started off well, too! United followed me from room to room and he ate some breakfast on his own...

good stuff!

Purr Hard!

Monday was not good...
United barely moved, barely ate... wasn't very alert or reactive..

We had a few good moments of United purring but mostly he just slept all day and night. At one point he was snuggling and purring on my chest and I let a couple tears fall. United sniffed my cheek and licked my tears, gave a couple headbonks to my chin and went back to sleep.

He is also losing weight again. Of course he is- he isn't eating...

We've said that if he has a week of rough days in a row we'll talk about putting him out of suffering. For those counting, today (Tuesday) would be day 3 of rough days in a row.

Not bad, but not good

The fever seems under control but United has been a litte slow. Lots of snuggles and purrs. Just not sure what's going on...
