Arrival Story:
Sir Felix was known as "Blackie" when he was the neighborhood tom. For many years I would see him in my barn; he'd always come for a few moments of ear-rubbing and then disaappear again, sometimes for months. He was well known in the neighborhood and sired many litters of kittens. Many of the resulting kittens were lovely siamese colors. Blackie was always plagued by matts and once when I saw him in the spring of 1997 he was so completely covered in matts that he couldn't walk, lie down, sit or even eat normally. I tried but couldn't catch him. I had to do something, so I started leaving out bowls of food for him, and soon enough, he started showing up every day whenever I set out the food. It took a month but I was finally able to lure him close enough to the house for me to grab him, scruff him, sit on his tail, and with some horse clippers, clip off all the matts. I was left with a skinny pink cat with a black face, feet and mohawk down the middle of his back. I was sure that when I let go of Sir Felix' scruff, he was going to claw me so shreds and then run off and hide (I had him in the mud room, I couldn't let him back out into the wild with no hair). As soon as I let go, he reached out to scratch me -- and then suddenly realized he could actually reach out. He spent about five minutes just stretching and rolling, and then he ran off and hid behind the washing machine. But the next day he came out again for food and pets. I brought him to the vet to be neutered; she wasn't sure he'd make it, but he did, and in a month he doubled his weight. He has lived in the pottery since then, and become a very sweet and pushy friend.

Sir Felix passed away on 20 December, 2006 at the age of 19.
