Arrival Story: Little did we know that an innocent visit to our local Animal Shelter would end up with us adding a third member to our family.
We were attending an Open House put on by the OSPCA for their Cat Cage Campaign. Having donated to this worthy cause, we came just to offer some extra food and see the new set up for the animals.
Well, as my husband tells me, as he glanced into one of the cages to check out the occupant, a paw quickly reached through the bars and tipped the brim of his hat as if to say, "have I got your attention!", and it worked. Hubby was enamoured with this approximately 14 week old little bundle of energy and it didn't take long for me to melt into his spell. It was also quite easy to give this feline his new family name - RINGO! Not from my fixation with the historical Beatles, but because of the prominent rings this tabby had around his body, tail and legs. It just seemed appropriate.
Ringo was found wandering around a local 7-11 parking lot and a good Samaritan decided to bring him to the shelter before the congested traffic did him any harm.
Because we had no history of the animal and its parentage, you have to sometimes go through a set back or two. Unfortunately, Ringo developed an upper respiratory infection and had to be on medication that delayed his neuter surgery and adoption release to us but through the excellent care of the local vets and due diligence of the shelter we brought our Ringo home in due time.
It took no time at all before Ringo was establishing the rules to our other two rescue cats, April and George. Two days to acquaint each other was all it took and by weeks end, Ringo had the house floor plans down pat and was expedient in reminding us of his meal times. He is quick to learn and loves to be wherever we are. We may give him a middle name of Linus, as he has the habit of dragging socks or small facecloths around the house wherever he goes. We cannot image not having Ringo, April and George in our lives now. They bring such pleasure and love to the house.
Out thanks to the Chatham-Kent Branch of the OSPCA for taking in the neglected, the abandoned, the mistreated and giving them a second chance through their adoption programs. And we encourage anyone who wishes to give love and a good home to the homeless animals, to search out their local Animal Shelters first.
