Arrival Story: My husband and I were running errands one day and decided to stop by the local pound. We were in the middle of buying a house and decided that it was time to add a pet to the family. Known at the time as Cat #37, this feisty little guy was in a cage with seven other kittens, all orange tabbies that may or may not have been his siblings. Their kennel was labeled "The Peek-a-boo Bunch." As soon as we walked past his cage, he ran to the front of the kennel and pushed all the other cats out of the way, as if to say "PLEASE!!! Look at me!" His desperate attempts to be noticed caught our attention, and in seconds he was out of the cage and into our arms, crawling all over us and enjoying his freedom. He was extremely friendly and didn't struggle while being turned over on his back. When I asked the animal control officer if she could hold the kitty for us until the end of the week, she told me that he was scheduled to be euthanized in two days. Already in love with the huggable little tabby, we decided to adopt him, even though we were between houses and didn't really have a place to keep him (he ended up staying with his "grandparents" for two weeks). After removing him from the confines of the pound, placing him in a carrier, and then putting him in the car, he became a noticeably happier kitty and purred all the way home.
Epilogue:
Grendel was the first cat that we adopted. The week after we took him home, he appeared in the local paper as the "Pet of the Week" and was listed as being available for adoption!

Bio: Grendel is all about beauty and glamour and spends over 65% of his day cleaning himself and perfecting his hair. He hardly ever needs a bath. He also loathes ceiling fans to the extent that all loud noises and frightening events are followed by episodes of intense glaring and growling at the ceiling. The ceiling fan is, apparently, the root of all evil. Aside from caring for his own vanity, Grendel enjoys watching his favorite melodramatic TV shows with his grandma, as well as eating other people's food.
