Arrival Story:
This woman was doing her morning walk one day when she saw me following a staff person to the bus stop in the parking lot of a nursing home. She told the employee it looked like she had a friend but the staff person just grunted & went on. The woman stopped to pet me & another staff person came out & asked if she would take me home with her b/c I had been hanging out there for several weeks. The woman asked for a box b/c she knew I wouldn't let her pick me up. The staff person couldn't find one but said she thought I would follow her home. I thought that would be a good idea so I did! The woman never had a cat before but thought I would like some tuna. Boy, was she smart! I ate like I had never eaten before. This woman has guinea pigs so she kept me closed in the bathroom all day with a make shift litterbox & some water. She never intended to keep me (although after that tuna, I had other plans) so she took me to the local SPCA. I pleaded with her the whole way not to. When she got me there, she commented that I am sweet so she might come back me even though she is allergic. They said she shouldn't leave me then b/c she also told them I had been a stray for a few weeks. They said knowing that, they would very likely euthanize me right away. The woman asked if she got me tested & vaccinated, would they take me & they said yes. When she took me to the vet the next day, I was not sweet at all & she knew I would never pass the SPCA's friendliness test. (Well, I wasn't friendly b/c I didn't know this guy but he was sticking me with needles and all!) She brought me back home & contacted as many cat rescue groups as she could that night. They all said they were full & could not take me but if she would foster me, they would post me on their PetFinder page & she could bring me to adoption shows. The 1st weekend I was with this woman, I almost died. I was very sick & weak. It was Labor Day weekend and she was just coming off of being unemployed. No way she could afford the vet bill. She contacted all the rescues again & 1 very nice woman came over & helped me nurse me back to health. The woman who took me in started taking me to adoption shows nearly every weekend. I would go from being nice to a terror. She had never heard a cat growl b4 so I showed her what that was like. People would go up to me & say "she's beautiful." I would growl at them b/c I liked this woman that gave me tuna & didn't want to leave her. She didn't know it yet, but I chose her to be my meowmy. She would take me to the shows & the rescue people would say "You're going to end up keeping her" & she would get all upset & say no she wasn't. She even refused to name me! But every time she took me to the shows, I would act even worse then the last time. So eventually I got my wish & she is now my meowmy. Sometimes she looks at me, shakes her head & says "How did I ever get so lucky to end up with you in my life?"
Bio:
I have learned to live with meowmy's guinea pigs. I'll even put up with them enough to sleep on the couch while the boys (the guinea pigs) sit with meowmy & watch TV. I am not friendly with other cats or dogs though. I don't want anyone on my territory. I HATE it when she has dogs stay the night during transports. Once, she had 2 terriers closed in the living room & they started barking b/c she left them to use the bathroom. Well, I was not going to put up with that so I hissed & tried to break down the door to stop those 2 annoying creatures. That is why meowmy can't take any of the other cats listed as "family" in. I won't allow it. But I tolerate her doing her best to find the other cats homes. She's done it when her neighbor died crossing the street (Joey), when she found another stray orangie like me (Lance), and to help the woman who came by that 1st weekend & saved my life (all the others).

Meowmy has learned from me that love can be expressed in a lot of different ways. She wants to hug & kiss me but I won't let her. But I tell her I love her by following her around the apartment, sleeping with her, and just sitting and staring at her. I've learned to tolerate her occasional hugs for maybe 20 seconds. I don't scratch her to get away anymore but I do plead with her & then she lets me go. We're working the affection thing out.
