Arrival Story: She adopted me. I had lost my beloved calico cat the previous fall and was still suffering from her death. All of my friends kept asking when I was getting a new kitty and I kept postponing it. I knew that the right cat would adopt me. Sure enough. I went to SF Animal Care and Control and SFSPCA a couple of times 'just to look'. Then one day I saw this goofy looking little kitty. She came running to the front of the cage and stuck her paws through the fence and then threw herself on the floor and rolled around. I was interested. Something about her reminded me of my old cat Doobie. She had a big fluffy tail and hair between her toes just like Doobie. When I looked at her chart it said she was not adoptable, so I moved on. Sort of. The next day I came back and she was still as friendly and desperate for attention. Closer examination of the chart and I found out that she had been picked up as a stray in a huge park, out near the ocean and far from any houses. Oh, and she was a biter. I talked to one of the volunteers who told me was to be evaluated by the SPCA the next day and if they didn't take her she would be put down. I went home and couldn't get her out of mind. I called the next day and they couldn't help me without her ID number which I didn't have. I was 40 miles away at work and couldn't get there before they closed. Anyway, they wouldn't allow me to adopt her if she didn't pass her behavioral tests. My best friend lives next door to someone who works at AC&C and eventually got info out them about the cat and who to talk to about her. The 'no kill' SPCA wouldn't take her. (They don't kill the animals, they have AC&C do it so they don't have to). After a couple days of tears and many phone calls, I was set up to foster her through SF Gimme Shelter Cat Rescue. That never happened. I adopted her straight out.
I wasn't so sure at first. She is nothing like my old cat. She climbs on everything, plays like a maniac, dashes out the door any chance she gets, loves visitors and is fascinated by water. After six months I adore her, even if she is a little bit evil.

Cheers,

Mom didn't post this entry earlier as she had to go to the hospital. Grandma's procedure is over and done with. She is out of recovery and is now recuperating in her hospital room. Mom will go there soon to check up on her.
But in the meantime, I have some more thanking to do and it involves two Henrys and a Tigger.
One is Henry, as in King Henry. He sent me some Valentine candy hearts. So sweet of him. He is big gorgeous orange tabby.
Another Henry sent me a trophy. This Henry is from England. He is a big beautiful brown tabby and is a King at his house. (He is my good friend and writes an excellent diary BTW).
Last but not least, Tigger sent me a forever crown so I can be COTW forever in my mind. Thanks, Tigger.
And of course I would like to thank Head Quarters for the COTW honors. And also thanks to HQ for the Valentine's unconditional love of cats.
I can't believe it! I'm Cat of the Week! And I'm home alone. Boy, will my mom owe me by the time she gets back. Wow! I'm meowless! More later.
Cheers,
Luci
Mom was supposed to come home today but she is stuck in Southern California. Grandma is going to have surgery on Tuesday to repair her broken back and mom needs to be there for her. I am getting restless. I have been alone for one week and I have had enough of this "alone time".
The catsitter called mom and told her that I was ripping the place apart. He exaggerates. I only removed a couple of table cloths and knocked a few items onto the floor. I really wish my mom could be here but she has her own problems apparently. Dealing with the human vets and all there nonsense is driving her crazy. There seems to be quite a bit of hurry up and wait involved in healthcare. We'll just leave it at that.
And then there is Rocky Ann. We are broken up about her. She has a very special place in our hearts. She is a special kitty and part of a very special family. We are purring for Rocky Ann, her sweet mom, her very special family.
Even mom is trying to purr, MOL.
All our love to them,
Luci and family
