Birthday: July 6th 2005 Coloration: Orange & White Tabby Likes: Cat nip , Cat nip , Cat nip Pet-Peeves: He likes to be rubbed only on his terms Favorite Toy: Any thing that moves Favorite Nap Spot: In the shed that is his little out door home Favorite Food: Chicken breats and hard food Skills: Mello is super smart, and very strong~ Arrival Story: I first noticed Mello last December 2006. He would come around for food, but he would never let me get near him. Once winter had passed, Mello started to come around more frequently. I continued to feed him as well as tempt him with Catnip. Slowly, Mello started to trust me enough and wouldn't run away from me. He would strike and hiss at me, but i have been through worst things in life, so his behavior never scared me. I was actually surprised that Ramon, who also lived on my porch, accepted Mello. Similar to Ramon, Mello had decided that he was going to occupy space on my porch and adopt me as his unofficial caregiver. He has been with me ever since July 2007. I wish I could take mello indoors, but he is still a little unpredictable and likes to bite and strike at me, so I don't think it would work out if introducted him to china, alfie and Monty. I figured that if had Ramon toughed it out on my porch, then Mello can do the same. I purchased a 5x5 foot shed for Ramon and Mello and put it on my back porch as a little out door shelter. It's not much, but is enough protection from the harsh winter. Sadly, Ramon is no longer with us, but Mello is still around and appears to be pretty comfortable. If you look closely at some of Mello's pictures dated June 2007, he was very skinny, but if you look at the pictures that I took of him in October 2007, he looks healthy. He is a completely different cat. I don't know how old mello is ,but i am guessing that he might be two years old. I gave him my late fathers date of birth 7/06 Lives Remaining: 9 of 9 The Groups I'm In: ♥All Fur Fun♥
Yesterday God mama took me to the vet to get my stitches out~ I was so relieved to see her when she picked me up after my suture removal. God mama says that I’m a really good boy in the car because I don't cry like her indoor kitties when they have to go in the car to their vet appointments. She took me home and kept me crated overnight to make sure the anesthetic wore off. This morning she woke up at 7am, fed me, and gave me some treats. After I had breakfast, she opened the crate door, picked me up and walked me right out her back door. I practically jumped out of her hands once the door opened. I was so happy to see the outside, I missed it so much! I guess we are both happy now, she got me fixed and back to health and I’m free again!
She was worried that I was going to run off and never come back. I did take a stroll after she set me free, but I came back around noon time for lunch~ I'm not that made at her, plus I would never pass up a good meal!
Peace, love and hugs,
Mello
Okay, so the plan was to get mell nuetred, but low and behold he had a super ugly abcyst growing in his left cheek that exploded open, and so not only did he undergo man surgery to get his nee nees sniped, but he had to get his cheek cleaned out and stitched up too. Luckily, he had his rabies shot from when I took him to the vet this past January. If he didn’t have it, they would have wanted to quarantine him for six months.
The Big kicker from all of this is that Mell has to stay on meds and go back to the vet in ten days to get his nylon stitches removed. I guess they didn't feel dissolvable stiches would be worth a try because the wound was so big. Also, because mell is part stray/ feral they asked me if I could house him in a crate until the tens days are up and he can go back to the vet to get his stitches removed. I guess they thought it would be more difficult to try and trap him a second time. Of course I said yes, but it has been stressful seeing his poor little face in the crate. I feel so bad! I am taking good care of him, but you can tell that all he wants it out. I actually let him out of the cage last night, I wanted to see what he would do, to see if he would be calm around me, but he decided that he wanted to run to the window to escape. Luckily the window was closed, but I had to put him back into the crate, becasue this not only freaked me out, but I think it stressed him out too. I am just counting down the days, so that he can get back to what he calls home (the out doors). My biggest concern is that now Mell is going to associate me as the “predator” instead of a “friend”, and will never come back around after I release him.
Mama has finally trapped me so that she can TNR me. I was so scared to hear that cage close shut, but she feels worse then me. however, she decided that it is now or never to get me fixed, and so she loves me so much it’s now~ I will be held over night at the feral cat ladies house. She is helping my mommy to get me fixed through low coast spay/neuter vet. Mama and daddy dropped me off tonight and my God mama started to cry as she left me. The nice lady reasured God mama that she was going to take good care of me` Please keep me in your prayers as I get my NeeNees sniped.
Pease love and big mello hugs~
