Arrival Story:
We came home one night and found a tabby cat lying on our front steps. I approached her but she ran away. For the next few weeks, we saw her in the neighborhood, and decided she was a stray, not a cat someone let loose.
I set up a havahart trap to catch her, and after three days I was successful. I brought her to the humane society, where they examined her and told me she'd recently had kittens. They recommended I bring her back and let her out to take care of her kittens, but to keep feeding her, and eventually she'd bring her kittens around.
Two weeks later, she came up the stairs to the deck with a tiny kitten next to her. It took another havahart trap to get the kitten, but it worked.
