Favorite Food:
He sticks to his normal cat food: Iams Weight Management Hairball dry

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story:
Black Elk and his litter mate, Macha, were strays living under my old house in New Orleans. When his mother couldn't care for them anymore, we took them both in. He was barely six weeks old at the time. Surprisingly, his mother let us take the kittens without a fuss.

Bio:
We had a hard time coming up with a name for him. We must have gone through 3 or 4 possibilities, none of which he answered to. One day, we followed the sound of paper-shredding to where he was happily ripping apart a copy of the book "Black Elk Speaks." His other mommy's first words were, "Aww, no! Black Elk!" He promptly meowed, and has answered to that name ever since. Elk is as laid-back as anyone can get while still having a pulse. But he always knows when someone's upset (human or feline) and will soothe them until they're happy and relaxed again. He's a healer by nature, and shows by example to not sweat the small stuff. This has taken on a new dimension since he was diagnosed with diabetes. Between daily insulin and blood testing, and weekly subcu fluids, his calm is a blessing. He never holds a grudge, even after we turn him into a feline pin cushion. No one can remain stressed out when around Elk; you just can't help but give in and relax with a smile on your face.
