My candles and love are burning brightly for Grub as I continually pray for his health, wellbeing and happiness. I know in my heart that his mommy Lyn is doing everything within her power for him and doing all of the right things for him. She has been so good about updating me/us with Grub's progress. The quiet worries me and I am a little frightened, for I haven't heard from Auntie Lyn since yesterday afternoon. I take comfort in being surrounded by my friends; thank you all who have offered your love and support. I will update when I receive any updates from mommy Lyn and Grub.
I continue to beliEVE and I continue to pray.
I love you, GRUB

Grub,
I know you can hear me.... I am whispering my love into your heart. Although you are on pain medications and not feeling well, I beliEVE in you, I beliEVE in your mom and everything that she is doing for you. If you need to let go... it is okay my sweetness. You are a fighter, you have fought well. If by some miracle you bounce back, I'll be the happiest purr in the world.
Feel me in your heart... I am here with you always and I'll never leave you.
Mom got this sad update on my love purr:
Tonight Grub is hanging on by a very fine thread.. he has liver issues now too. his liver counts should be 8 ..grubs are over 100. his kidneys are off the scales..over 1800plus 64 onwards. all are not good. The ER vet is doing what he can, and IF the need arises we will let Grub go,,,He is on pain meds and they make him sleepy so we are giving him the next few hrs .. Will let you know what happens tonight . Hugs Lyn
I will never forget the day we met. I was enchanted, as I am to this very day. You've made me so happy, so alive! Our adventures, our escapades, being together, hearts entwined.
We are purraying for you, sweetness. I will update as I can.
Softest purrs of forever love...

My lovepurr Grub is not doing well at all. I just found out this morning and I am typing through my tears. If I could have but one wish, my wish would be for Grub to recover and be healthy and happy. I will think positively, I will beliEVE. If it is your Time, then I will try to understand. Please know that you are forever in my heart, my dearest Grub, and I love you always and always more.
Mommy received this sad message from Grub's mommy today:

Things are not looking good for Grub. Will have an update from our vets soon ,,IF Grub is with us he will be transported to the ERvets for intensive over night care then IF he is here he will go back to our vets for intensive day care. Dear friend, whoever you are; thank you for the anonymouse Power of the Paw rosie! I wish I could thank you in purrson, however because I cannot, I can only hope that you by chance read my diary to know how much I appreciate you and your kind gesture.
May I share my Power of the Paw rosie with my goodest sisfur, Odie? She has stones... again. This is the second time she has had stones. How ironic that I had them too... however I could not avoid surgery. However, my surgery was a huge success! We were successful in avoiding surgery for Odie the furrst time two years ago, and we are hoping to be successful again this time. She has been on antibiotics for 8 whole weeks while on her special food!!! Her v.e.t.'s reasoning for this lengthy dose of Clavamox was that as the stones dissolve, they expose layers of bacteria... that could cause infection. Has anybodys ever heard of this??? We have such a history of stones and knowledge on the subject that this sounds a bit odd. *shrugs* Plus, mister v.e.t. really wanted Odie to have surgery, no exceptions! Well mom definitely disagreed. (and is switching vets) It is so impurrtant to have a goodest vet that you trust. So, Odie is going back to our original vet from 10 years ago, from when we lived in CA before. She is still here!! And we love her. We will schedule Odie's 2nd ultrasound in the next couple of weeks.
SO, sweet anonymous friend, your Power of the Paw and kindest thoughts mean so much. I hope you see this, and I hope that you know how much we care about each other and appreciate your kind heart!
Love, headbumpies and .... wiggliest happiest gigglies!

Dear Diary:
Diary friend, can you tell me who my sweet sweet SWEETEST anonymous and goodest friend is, who sent me an anonymous Power of the Paw charm todays? Here is the secret message attached:
"We were thinking of you today and wanted to send our Purrs and some Power of the Paw We're so glad that those stones are out of you and we're hoping that they stay out! We love you and you have our purrs, praywers and POTP for forever !"
I got this lovely message just now!! Whoever you are, it works!! It works! I have been healthy, happy, and stone FREE for ... eggzactly 7 whole months now! *somersaults in huge wiggliest gigglies* As you know, my goodest friend, I am unfurrtunately very susceptible to stones, so a recurrence is high. (I had a momentary lapse of Oreo-Speak and wrote proper English, MOL JGMOL!)
but...
BUT! I wish to thank you, my anonymous friend... who are you???! Your POTP has helped and it works!!!
I love, love LOVE you!!! MUAH!

****THUNDERS**** in!!!
Oh, HI everybodys!! I wish to thank my anonymous friend, whoever that may be, for purring for me and sending the power of the paw rosie with this note:
Sending our Purrs and Power of the Paw to you and your family. We heard that your stones are still decreasing in size and we won't stop purring until they're all gone !
Well, I actually had surgery to have them taken out last August, but I am very very susceptible to recurrence, so the purrs, praywers and POTP are ALWAYS needed!!
Please... can we purr for my sisfur Lily? She has been straining to go potty in the litter box this morning and nothing much happens, so mom is going to take her in the Porta-Jail to the v.e.t. today... I sure hope it is just a mild infection and NO stones, like Tigger, Odie and I all had....
Thank you my goodest most wonderful anonymous friend and to EVERYBODYS!!
And happy birthday to my doofy sisfur Berkeley today. *whispers* I think she has a crush on somebodys named Coopy... teeheehee!! Well I don't blame her, he sure is a handsome Dane!
ByeBye fur now, dear diary!

My Christmas Wish
Dear Diary:
It has been a long time since I’ve written to you. We are still settling into our new home and mom is continually settling into her new job. But, we are happy, healthy, warm and safe. My Christmas Wish is for every animal on Earth to be happy, pain free and loved. Yes, I know it may be impossible, but it doesn’t hurt to beliEVE, right?
*gazes up to her little sisfur Eve in Heaven, and winks*
I want to take a moment to reflect on how lucky we are to have had our humans bend over backwards to ensure our safety throughout all of our adjustments involved with our big move. Many humans would abandon their precious furbabes in the event of such a difficult transition. Being that we are so very blessed and among the lucky few, I wish to reiterate the importance of remembering our homeless friends, our shelter friends and our sick and disabled friends. They are the ones most needing and wanting a little extra something this holiday season, no matter how small. The smallest gestures speak volumes!
Won’t you take a moment to show some kindness to the little kitten in the cage at the pet supply store, looking at you with hopeful eyes, wanting a forever home? Give her a little scratch under the chin or play with her for 5 minutes? Won’t you take a moment to donate bowls of food to the needy at the Animal Rescue Site by clicking on the icon to give food? It’s FREE! Or how about putting a quarter in the styrofoam cup of the homeless man on the street, holding his kitty that he loves so? Maybe donate some gently used blankets or towels to your local animal shelter?
That is the true meaning of Christmas Spirit. As my little sisfur Eve says; …..BELIEVE! Believe in the magic of the season, help make it a little brighter for those less fortunate and bring a smile to somepurr’s face… or elicit a soft purr of happiness…. or give a gentle headbonk of appreciation. The smallest gestures bring the greatest joys!
Happy Christmas, Merry Hannukah and good happy Kwanzaa to all of the animals of the world. Wishing all peace, love and happiness.

Please furgive the redundancy of all of our diary entries; the big day has finally arrived, the day my family has been preparing for over the last 9 months. We are going to start our drive across the country very early tomorrow morning, Monday 10/18! SHRIEKS WITH DELIGHT and ***THUNDERS*** about hugging her friends!!
Things have been slowly disappearing from our house, and now the house is completely empty except for our kitty things and a few mundane human things. Well, kitty things take priority, right?? At first we were confused, a little scared and hesitant to venture about, now we’re having a ball, racing about the house and playing.
We will be driving 2000 miles from Minneapolis to San Francisco and it will take 3 full days of driving. Mom and dad will be driving all 7 of us kitties and our doggie sisfur Berkeley in the huge “van conversion” MOL MOL MOL which we’ve dubbed “The Ark”. We have faith in the Ark bringing us safely home, and we have a crew of Angel Kitties flying high above us, guiding us safely home. To all of our angel friends, thank you for guiding us and surrounding us with the safety and peace of mind that we need. Dad spent lots of money on the van to be sure it is in tip top shape for our trip, and mom got each of us our own carrier so that there is no possibility of any of us escaping. The house is full of Feliway, and catnip and we’ve had Rescue Remedy put in our water as calming agents.
Mom even had a Reiki session done for us last night, to bathe us in healing energy and calmness. During the session, we were all very relaxed, purring and snoozing. We will do what we can to make this as easy as possible.
We will be camping out in the van, all of us together for 2 nights. *giggles* we thought it would be a challenge to sneak 7 cats and a dog into a motel… MOL! The idea of camping at KOA campgrounds offers some excitement and fun to the trip. We should be arriving on 10/20.
I’m afurraid my family and I will be going silent for a bit. To those that have our email and cell, we sure would love to hear from you, and mom will do her best to update you.
To all who have offered your purrs and prayers, we are sincerely grateful. My family and I love you all! We will see you on the other side, ready to celebrate and have fun again!
My magic backpack is all packed up with Oreo cookies, treats, toys, catnip and Oreo ice cream. I'm ready!!
Xooxoxoxooxoxo

Oh, hai everybodys!!
Mom belongs to a FLUTD group on Yahoo and one of the nice ladies shared this information with her, about ME and my silly ammonium urate stones. Looks like I’ll be trying eel sometime?! MOL! Well, I do love chicken, so we’re muddling through this. Carrots don’t do any of us much good; we all spit them out when we find them mixed in our Blue Buffalo food.
*gives mom a ‘look’* Well, YOU spit your peas out… so I can spit my carrots out. JGMOL!
We’ve also gotten some good suggestions from the specialty food store. I wanted to share this with you for your information and comments. This is courtesy of my goodest friend Nina M. from our group:
Here's a little on urates & low-purine diets. This link is for dogs unfortunately, but gives a little more info:
http://www.ehow.com/about_6508342_canine-purine-die t.html
The kidney (renal failure) diets are really the only ones you see recommended for cats w/ urate stones. The reason is the lower protein in these diets. If it were me, and I were looking for a non-prescription diet I would probably try and find wet foods w/ lower-purine ingredients (so, for example I'd look for chicken or lamb-based wet foods without organs). This list shows purine content of various ingredients:
http://www.dietaryfiberfood.com/purine-food. php
I was just playing around w/ the ingredients on the low-purine list. It's tough to find a balance between sufficient protein (for a cat) and a low-purine diet. However I did notice that eel, for whatever reason, is a really low-purine food. I happen to know that Addiction makes an eel-based canned cat food (I used to buy it in Asia). Have a look here:
http://www.addictionfoods.com/usa/prod_cat_unagi.ph p
The first 4 ingredients in the food are eel, venison, potatoes, carrots...all of which are quite low-purine (the venison is the only exception and is a moderate purine meat).
Also, you may want to look at home-PH testing and trying to get your baby's urine PH up slightly. Urates are less likely to form in more alkaline urine.
Was your baby ever tested for a PSS (portosystemic shunt)?
It's a physical defect in the liver and can be a major cause
of urate crystal formation. It can sometimes be corrected
surgically. Testing for PSS is non-trivial in cats, but if
that is the cause, and it is corrected, it can solve the problem.
Read more here:
http://maxshouse.com/PORTOSYSTEMIC%20SHUNTS%20(Update ).htm

THANK YOU Auntie Nina for your wealth of information and for the kindness and time that you took to help me!! We will continue to research!
