Nicknames:
Little Big Man, Big, Mr. Big, Mister Mister, Winnie, Monster, Big Guy, Sir Winston, Iron Belly Joe

Quick Bio:
-mixed breed-cat rescue

Likes:
Stalking small living creatures, food, a nice nap, a good brushing, garnering attention, head scratchies, playing "tent" with the Sunday paper.

Pet-Peeves:
Food not in dish on time, Poudre in the way, doors not opening when requested.

Favorite Toy:
Rubber band balls, a small cloth bear -- a Happy Meal prize -- renamed "mousebear" to arouse more interest, and individual rubber bands that have somehow come loose from the rubber band ball

Favorite Nap Spot:
Every place is a potential favorite nap spot. Recent favorites are on top of the bed, on the fluffy bathroom rug, and wedged in the crook of my arm..

Favorite Food:
Tuna, tuna, tuna. KFC a close second. Pepperoni -- he's been known to jump into the Pizza Hut delivery guy's car. Bacon. Extremely fond of ice cream.

Skills:
Sensing a can of tuna being opened from up to 100 feet away. Gouging out huge chunks of cardboard out of his scratching post/box with his big hammy paws.

Dwells:
indoors and outdoors

Arrival Story:
He was running around the neighborhood during a terrible ice storm. I managed to convince him to let me pick him up. He was in bad shape -- -- he had ear mites and worms, was cold and malnourished and hadn't been neutered. I took him to the vet and gave him a lot of attention. He mostly slept for more than a month, then finally started to warm up to me.

Bio:
He ran away (or probably was taken) and lived for about two years on the other side of town. A lady finally called about him -- he still had his collar and vet tag. He was mad to be taken back, at first, but now has forgiven me and has a nice life that is the envy of any bachelor cat.

I know you people are anxious for an update ...

... but I have been extremely occupied with important business.

This is day 68 of the backyard bunny project, and I am still hard at work. Mom thinks I should leave that rabbit alone, but I am compelled to lay in wait for the bunny to emerge from under the deck, or perhaps to hop through a small depression under the fence and into the back yard.

You people have no idea how exhausting this can be. It makes me exceedingly hungry. I take very small breaks to go inside and request new food to be placed in the dish. If the food lady is too lazy then I admonish her before insisting that the patio door be opened immediately for my egress so I can return to sentry duty.

Sometimes I must go through this ridiculous exercise several times before the food lady "gets it" and places appropriate moist food in the bowl and freshens the water. I then eat quickly so I can return to my post. Of course I have to again wait for her to open the patio door, although I must admit that she makes herself available many times a day for this service. Still ...

I have no idea why she just doesn't fill the food bowl and put it outside when she knows darn well how busy I am. She says it is because of something called "ants." Whatever.

Until my next communique...

I'm too busy for this

I don’t know why I should share my secret thoughts with you, but Mom said it might be fun. Fun for her, I guess. I am really too busy for this. I am on day 48 of the backyard bunny project. A bunny is living under our deck and Mom doesn’t want me to kill it. But I’m constantly watching for it. Once Mom came outside while I was stalking it, and we were all surprised and the bunny jumped straight into my clutches. Mom screamed my name and when I looked up to see what the heck her problem was, bunny hopped away. Anyway, I must keep an eye on this situation because I think it would just be wrong for me to let a bunny live in our yard. That’s just the way it is, you know? This bunny is bigger now, but I’m still the monster in this case.

I caught a mouse two nights ago but it didn’t taste as good as I had wished. Mom was proud but did not let me inside with it. It is a little too hot to do a lot of serious chasing of birds, mice and rabbits. If it cools off a little bit I may catch a mouse or two tonight before I come inside and go to bed.

This is a pretty good life, as Mom (the food lady, the door opener lady, the brush and tummy rub lady) is pretty responsive and seems to understand fairly well. When I was younger I never wanted to come inside and would make her feed me outside on the front porch. Even in the middle of winter. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve kind of come to dig having my own house, staying warm in winter, and having someone to watch TV with. Poudre gets on my nerves sometimes, but she’s old and a little bit under the weather, and Mom doesn’t like me being too hard on her. I hiss at her anyway if she gets too close to me or my food.

Speaking of food, it is time for me to go request a snack. I hope we’re having tuna. I love it when Mom makes tuna salad. She always saves a few choice bites of albacore for me.
