Arrival Story:
Four days after we got Millie, we were outside watering plants and we heard a plaintive meowing. After a thorough search, we found a tiny kitten in our neighbor's bushes. She was very scared and hissing, but when I picked her up and held her close to my heart, she calmed down. She was very ill and an immediate visit to the Vet revealed several problems, but we got her through them. She was only about 18 to 21 days old.
Bio:
Tiki has never been a really healthy cat, but we've never been able to put our finger on her exact health problems. She has had UTIs almost monthly for years and has never been friendly with anyone except Mom. Recently we started her on a course of treatment with an immuno-boosting drug used for cats with FIV, on the theory that she was immune deficient from being abandoned by her mother at such a young age. She has made significant progress on this drug. UPDATE: On Monday, December 12th, we found out that Tiki had advanced bladder cancer that had metastasized. The experimental drug had quit working and she was in so much pain that we made the difficult choice to let her go. Just as I held her close to my heart when I first found her, I also held her close to my heart as she went to sleep for the last time. Despite everything, I loved my Tiki dearly and we had a special bond unlike any other. I miss her so much!
