Leave a treat for Malcolm

Nicknames: Malkie

Sun Sign: Birthday: January 1st 2002
Arrival Story: We live in a rural subdivision with wooded lots around us. One day as the family was standing outside enjoying the day, a black cat appeared out of the corner of the woods next to us. Already owning 2 cats we decided we'd find a good home for him. Our eldest daughter was in college and had a friend who said his sister wanted to adopt the cat. So, she took him, got his shots and had him neutered. Well, after a few weeks she decided she didn't want him because he "played too rough". We reluctantly took him back and before long he was one of our favorites! Malcolm weighs 16 lbs...the last time we checked.

Bio: (Before I tell you this story I want to say that all 4 of our furry babies now come inside every night. They also have a pet door into our garage they can access at anytime of the day, as well as access into our workshop and a securely fenced yard.)
Since our kitty babies are country cats they are free to roam outside as well as come in when they "ask" (sit in the kitchen window and look at us very sadly, or meow very loudly on the back porch). Normally there is no problem, however, in February 2005 at 1:00AM I awoke to a terrible noise. Dogs barking and growling and cats screaching!! It was horrible! I ran outside screaming at the dogs to "go away" while my husband ran into the darkness yelling at them. I immediately saw one of our 4 babies then began looking for the others. Once the other 2 were accounted for I knew it was Malcolm that was being attacked. My husband was finally able to get the dog away from him and immediately brought him to safety. We bundled him up and rushed him to the ER pet clinic. They were awesome in stablizing him and stitching him up. At 7:00AM the next morning I had to pick him up from the ER and bring him to our family veterinarian for further treatment. This little guy was in terrible shape. He stayed with Dr. Welch for 6 days. I'd go by twice a day to hand feed him and give him lots of love. I later learned from one of Doc's assistants that he even took him home one night because Malcolm's body temp dropped too low and Doc thought he might lose him. He kept him on a heating pad, monitoring him throughout the night. Finally Malcolm came home. We turned our guest bedroom into his bedroom complete with a litter pan he could maneuver in and out of. Our little guy was in alot of pain but he never gave up. I'm happy to report that he fully recovered and is absolutely a wonderful, loving, devoted kitty baby! He also sleeps right next to me every night and if he could talk in English he'd call me MOM!
