Arrival Story: Lily was a wild kitten, her mother could never be approached. She had the kittens in the woods behind someone's home, and they found them when they were 6 weeks old. I drove 2 hours out in the mountains in the pitch dark to get her before she was eaten by a bear or mountain lion. She was skinny, malnourished, covered in fleas, and parasite infested. She almost died, we couldn't keep anything in her stomach, but hundreds of dollars later she finally started improving and growing. However, because of this crucial step in her development being bypassed, she remained a very small cat as an adult...with a fat belly of course...=)

Bio: Lily went through her second misfortunate at only 8 months old. She had been spayed at 3 months by a local shelter, and everything had healed nicely. Mysteriously, 5 months later she began throwing up all her food and having horrible stomach problems. We did everything possible to try to figure out the cause, to no avail. Eventually, the problems went away, so we figured it was odd but just moved on. A couple weeks later she was attacked by a wild cat during a routine visit outside to play, and two of her toes were almost completely bitten off. We rushed her to the vet and they treated her paw, but it continued to get infected over and over again, no matter what kind of antibiotic she took. She got sicker and sicker, and was tested for EVERYTHING, and the vet was stumped. She was near death and we truly thought we would lose her, and we decided to try our last hope, exploratory surgery. Immediately, the surgeon found the problem. A large piece of gauze sponge had been left inside her abdomen after her spay surgery, and it was highly infected. The surgeon explained to me that it would be the equivalent of a human having a large splinter embedded within our body and it never being treated. She had been in tremendous pain, and as soon as she woke up from the surgery, she was a different cat. We brought her home a week later and nursed her completely back to health slowly but surely. Now, over a year later, she has had NO more problems, and is a healthy and happy cat. She is, however, afraid of people other than my boyfriend and I, we believe as a result of all the health problems she has had to go through in her life. But to us she's the biggest baby you've ever seen. She insists on sleeping under the covers with me every single night, and loves to give me "kitty kisses." The little miracle cat pulled through with her strong will, and she and I became extremely close during the whole ordeal. I don't know what I would have done if I lost her...she's the best thing that has ever happened to me, she IS my baby!!
