Arrival Story: Hi! I'm Joe. I am twelve years old, and my mom says that I am as wise and as sweet as can be! My previous humans had me de-clawed, but I get around just fine. I am FIV positive, but I am doing GREAT with a top notch diet and great supplements, and I have many more years of love to share. My mom says that even knowing me for five minutes is a gift in and of itself.

Bio: I spent the first nine-and-a-half years with a couple who suddenly decided that they were going to become over-the-road truckers, so they marched me down to the no-kill shelter where my mom worked. I was scared! No cat-carrier, no plans for what to do when the shelter told them there was no more room, nothing! Well, my mom saw me, she saw what a treasure I am. No question about it, she said; she was going to take me home since the shelter was full. I was really upset. After all, all I knew was that one minute I was enjoying my morning at home, and the next, I was in the scary shelter, and then some woman I didn't know from Tuna was taking me into a strange new house! She told me that I could have all the time I needed to adjust, and that she understood that after being dumped by my family, I had no reason to believe that I was in a good, safe place. That helped, and I spent a few days under the bed in her study. It was nice not to be forced into anything I wasn't ready for! I was very matted, and I smelled like smoke, so my foster mom took me to her vet, who gave me a wonderful new haircut. Boy did I feel better! My dad was so sweet to me, and came in to see me all of the time. One day, I decided that it was safe to give him a chance, so I let him pet me. I loved it! Then, I came out and met Ralph and Calvin. They were nice, too! I am now totally comfortable in my home. I am so comfortable that I often sleep sprawled out, belly up, in the middle of the living room floor!
