indoors Arrival Story: It was a warm, clear September afternoon and I was working away in my office when I heard a terrible cat fight outside my window. It went on for several minutes and before I could get outside, I could see the cats scampering off. About a half hour later, I noticed a loud screaming of sorts. I passed it off as more cat fare...but the noise was so insistant. I went outside to investigate this clatter. In the middle of my side garden, beside a yellow rose bush sat a mound of bark...with noticeable white fur. I was so taken aback, at first I thought it to be a mouse or rat that surely one of the cats had captured and mamed...then I realized it was "meowing"! I immediately scooped up this un-recognizeable mound and hurried it inside. With warm water, I washed what was now a "him" down. He did not fight the warmth of the water nor did he fight the warm towel. As I touched his face, he immediately latched onto my finger, suckling away. I sent the kids about the yard to look for any sign of a mother or additional cats, but none could be found. Thus began a comedy of rushing about to find a suitable container, warm towels, heating pad and a mad dash to PetSmart for milk. Within the hour we had a bottle ready and warm nurturing bowl with heating pad. He immediatly took to the bottle, no problems. He suckled until full and fell fast asleep. I wasn't sure he would make it through the night, let alone a week. But here we are at almost three weeks, he is strong and quite the fighter. He is healthy, aside from occasional bouts of constipation. Bio: We had to name him stuart little. The kids had just seen the movie the week before, and his little paws look just like Stuarts from the movie...and because we have adopted him into our family, it just seemed like a natural fit. WOw, I can't believe how little I was....I'm now over a pound, am running, jumping, and overall just exploring my surroundings! My mom went away for a week and so I got to stay with a new friend!!!! I even met a dog, whom I love to play with..go figure...a dog!!! I learned to maneuvre stairs and have started eating regular kitten chow! Although, I must admit...while I don't do the bottle, I still like to latch on to my mamas hand and sleep wrapped around her head. I'm off to something called a vet this week....sounds fun!
I celebrated 4 weeks on wed. and last night, I bit my mom with my first tooth! I'm also realizing that this world is a WHOLE lot bigger than my box....so much so, that I can't help but throw myself out of the box and explore...so far, i've found the bed, which with claws, is very easy to climb. There's this thing called a hallway that I keep getting stuck in...it's kinda scary. It's also great fun, late at night, to crawl out of my box, and up to my mom while she sleeps...I can't figure out why she screams when I dig my claws in her face though....strange. All is well, and I'm getting bigger every day thanks to all those bottles mom feeds me! According to mom, I'm just about ready to start eating other foods, I wonder what she has in mind!
Well, I'm now over 3 weeks old. I've grown three times the size I was at birth. Both my eyes are open, and I'm seeing my world....as strange as it is, I like it! So I don't have a mama with fur....I still have one that loves and cares for me. I've started walking around....in circles mostly, but my legs are much stronger now. I've even discovered my stuffed doggy that I like to bat at and hit about. I can eat over a tablespoon of food at one sitting now!
Life is looking pretty good from this kittens point of view. I've made it this far...guess that's why mom calls me a fighter...but mostly, I'd like to think I'm just loved.
