Killer's relationship with our family actually began with his mother. We got her in the mid 80s from someone who was givng kittens away in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She was a Lynx Point Snowshoe and had the SWEETEST personality. Killer was born March 16, 1990 and was one of 5 precious fuzzballs. He was to be our son's cat and was originally named Calvin (yes, Killer did have a brother named Hobbes) While still a kitten, Frank started calling him Deadly Bits of Fur which somehow evolved into Killer. In his younger years, Killer did not care for the adults of the family. They were the terrible beasts who gave him fleas baths and scolded him for jumping on the counters. He much preferred Dan and Erin despite the fact that Erin would dress him up in all manner of costumes and Dan loved to chase him around the house. None the less, wherever the kids were, Killer was. Until the mid 90s Dan and Erin were home schooled, so it was a HUGE adjustment for the poor little guy when they started going away during the day for school, but I babysat at the time and that seemed to help some. It was when Dan left for the Air Force and Erin went to college that Killer had to come to terms with the adult bad guys. Not long after our nest was emptied, Frank suffered a 2 year bout of off and on unemployment. By the time that was over with the two of them were practically joined at the hip. On the evening of February 14th, 2007 I was cleaning the church and got a call from Frank who told me that Killer was terribly sick and dying. We rushed him to the ER Vet where we found out he was suffering from renal failure. It was a month before we discovered the cause. The very food that I had credited with his long life and good health, IAMS, had been the very thing to destroy his health. Killer lost his battle with kidney failure on September 28, 2007. He had reached the age of 17 years, 6 months and 12 days. He will always be our sweet precious boy.
