Arrival Story:
Pinkie and 10 other kittens were left in a box outside on a hot summer day in front of a 7-11 with the words "Free Kittens" written on the box. A volunteer of Friends of Homeless Animals ( found them and brought them into the shelter. We fostered 7 of the kittens. Two died of FIP. And the other two were fostered by someone else. I thought it'd be "safe" fostering 7 kittens because there was no way we could keep 7 kittens, we already had five cats. Obviously not thinking the whole idea through, it hadn't occurred to me that at some point we wouldn't have 7 kittens. The number would reduce as the kittens were adopted. And it turns out my husband is a hoarder-in-the-making. He HATED letting the kittens go to their new homes. Fast forward to three kittens left: Pinkie, Cyrus and Patrick. We figured we'd keep one (I had always planned on stopping at 6 cats). Since we were hoping Pinkie and Patrick would get adopted together we adopted Cyrus. Unfortunately, Pinkie and Patrick weren't really "marketable". They were still skittish around people. I was supposed to take them to an event the shelter was having to try to get them adopted but decided it would freak them out too much (it was outside w/dogs, live music, etc...) and we ended up keeping Pinkie and Patrick. Of course we win the prize for being the biggest foster flunkies at the shelter and can no longer foster due to my husband's hoarder tendencies. But the new kitties have really integrated well into our kitty family. The older cats have been really good about their new siblings. So we stop at 8 instead of 6.

Pinkie has two speeds "on and off". He's like a bull in a china shop. boinging or bouncing from place to place - thus his nickname McBoingBoing. He's still skittish by instinct or more habit, as soon as you say his name he stops running. He loves being scritched between his shoulder blades and occasionally will lie next to us on the couch. He and Patrick sleep in a basket in our bedroom. Whenever my husband or I get up in the middle of the night, Pinkie, Patrick and Cyrus climb up on the bed purring to cuddle with me. Pinkie sits or lies on my chest (which gets tougher as he gets bigger). I know they'll eventually grow out of doing this so I'm enjoying it while I can.
