Arrival Story:
Grandmaw spent several Winter weeks sitting on the ground talking to Opie's mother-to-be and offering treats by hand. Champagne was nearly a feral cat that purred almost continually and learned to trust her guardian to be. She came to this home and delivered two perfect litters before the evil neighborhood bully cat chased her into traffic where she was hit by a car. Opie & Charcoal were from her 2nd litter born in our heated laundry room. Their oldest brother, by a few minutes, "Tigger" went to live with his new family when he was weened. Opie is the "middle cat" with sister Charcoal being the youngest of the three litter mates.

Bio:
Opie got his name from the expression on his kitten face when he was trying to climb up the inside of his nursery box. He looked like a little Opossum and thus the name OP, for short; but we spell it Opie like the TV character's name although he was NOT named after the young Ron Howard character as many people think. His first trip to the Vet was when he got caught under a rocker/recliner chair at three months old. We thought he may have received a head injury. When the Vet tossed his keys on the exam table to test his neurological response, Opie began playing with the keys. We guess he passed the test and continues to be a source of entertainment upon each regular visit to his doctor. Because the guardians of Opie and Charcoal are 50+ and have no grandchildren... we have grandkitties. Thus, we are GrandPaw and GrandMaw to these two.
