Arrival Story:
After being in a house full of cats all my life, I thought it was time to get my own. I didnt really expect to go out and get a cat, but when I saw Miss at the pet store, there was no way I would leave without her. She lived with me at my mom's house for a year and then Miss and I were ready to move out. We lived with my (now) husband and older sister. Along with his dog and her two cats. Miss didnt like my sister's cats too much, she thought they were spoiled and stole all the love from her. Once my sister moved out, Miss became a kitten all over again...and is more loving then ever!! Well atleast late at night, when we all want to go to bed!!

Bio:
MISS rather be outside playing with the other neighborhood cats. She occasionally stays by the door, in hope that someone will open it wide enough for her to get out. But when she cant get out, she just sits pearing out the windows, watching the kids and cats....."someday...someday!". Missy died May 13, 2006 from complications of FIP. She was 5 years old and a very wonderful cat. Im sad to let her go, but I know she is in a better place...with all the chicken on the bone she can have!

Missy "Jetta" passed away May 13, 2006 from FIP.

She was a very loving cat and by far the most smartest cat I have ever known...she knew how to piss me off in the worse ways.

FIP

In December (2005) I brought Jetta to the vet for loss of appetite, not pooping and losing weight. The vet ran blood work only to see that she was fighting some type of virus and prescribed her with antibotics. In April (2006) I once again had to rush Jetta to the vet for the same symptoms. This time he ran the blood work (with the same results as before) and an xray. The results were very alarming, for she had a very small stomach (lack of eating), large amount of fluid in her abdominal and no trace of the small intestine. The doctor ran a belly-tap to the fluids to pull them and see if they were infection of any kind. He alarmed me that because she has always had odd symptoms her entire life (from puking, sneezing, diarrhea, gas, etc...) it may be possible that she had some type of cancer or FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).
This afternoon he called me with the results. Said that the tests ran and showed no cancer cells. However because they symptoms were very similar to FIP, the results were unconclusive. He believes she is on the verge of VIP, even though it usually bothers cats at age 2-3 or 14+ years (Jetta is 5). My older sister had a cat that did have (and died from) FIP, but Jetta nor my sisters cat ever met. My sister got her (dead) cats brother, which showed no signs for FIP, but could possibly be tested postive for the coronavirus. It is possible that Abner (my sisters cat) could have this coronavirus and passed it to Jetta through feces (from using the same litterbox). Its possible that Jetta has always had a low immune system and contracted the virus then (even though she has showed no symptoms until now...and Abner has not lived with us for 2 years).

Now I am set with the decision to let my cat live, while on hormones, until I am ready to put her to sleep. Although I dont want to be selfish and keep her in so much pain, I dont have the heart to let her go, not right now. I have sent my husband out to get the correct information from the vet. To see if it is completely FIP or if its just some odd virus that she can fight.
I just dont understand how a 5 year old cat could take so long to develop these symptoms. If she has always been infected with it, why now is she showing the "breaking down" symptoms? With the information I have read on the internet, it seems like once a cat "catches" FIP, they have only a small amount of time left in their life. Why has Jetta been around so long...? And why if she does have it, does she have it at 5 years old? Is it possible?

TBC....

Wow Miss is cat of the day today! She hopes that everyone saw her on the homepage!! Just for being cat of the day, her mama bought her a new "SELF FEEDING" food bowl...so she'll never have to go hungry again (it's been 2 hours since I last dropped a scoop of food)!! Life is so rough when you dont have hands of your own!
