 Quick Bio:
 Coloration: Black

Likes: Moka likes to explore and make his own fun. A wadded-up piece of tape or a bottle cap can captivate him. He enjoys wrestling and playing with his companions Buttercup and Locket. Strangely, he also likes to eat the hair of human companion Rachel.

Pet-Peeves: He doesn't like to be touched when he's not in the mood. And he doesn't like to be told he's not allowed to eat Rachel's hair!

Favorite Toy: Cat Dancer will always get him running around.

Favorite Nap Spot: Right on our bed, where he's slept since he recovered from the respiratory infection that led him to us originally.

Favorite Food: Cat treats, which we give him sparingly.

Skills: His self-preservation skills are impressive -- we will never get over his resourcefulness in coming into our house that first time when he needed medical care.

Dwells:
indoors

Arrival Story: Moka came into our lives on a stormy evening in early October 2006. He walked through our back door when Chris was feeding the neighborhood cats on the porch. A five-month-old kitten with a respiratory infection, he was wet and having trouble breathing. Until then, he had never come closer to our door than the back of the yard, where we'd seen him a few times. But that evening it was as though he knew his life depended on making contact with human beings. The next morning, Chris took the little kitten to the vet, where he was given antibiotics. On the way home Chris bought a crate, litter and a litterbox, and some kitten food. Originally, we weren't sure whether we would keep him indoors or return him to the neighborhood colony, but after a few days of taking care of him and watching him recover we knew we wanted him to live with us. It took more than a month for us to name him, and decided on Moka because his coat is actually a very dark brown when you look at it in daylight.

Bio: When we'd seen him outside, he'd been with several littermates -- all dark brown. We still see what we think is one of them in the neighborhood, and we wonder whether Moka would recognize his sibling after all this time. While we were moving to a new house 3 blocks away on November 1, 2008, Moka disappeared. Moka, Buttercup, Chirpy and Locket were all in one room with the door closed while the movers were at work; somehow, the door was opened and they all ran out. We managed to catch all of them except Moka, who just vanished. He must have run out the front door. It took a month, but we finally found him behind some stuff on the porch of the house directly across the street from our old house. We stood on our old porch (a day after we had relinquished the keys to the house) and called "Moka," just to feel like we were continuing the search. Lo and behold, we heard a cat meowing in response -- and it turned out to be our elusive Moka. We are delighted he is home with us now in our new house!!
