I always wanted an orange cat but had never owned a cat before. Norman was "for sale" at a petstore and he was just the cutest thing. So I bought him. This was 11 years ago when I was young and stupid and didn't think to go to a shelter. Anyway, I couldn't stand him for the first 8 months of his life. Remember, I never had a cat before and he was a typical kitten. 11 years later, he's my buddy. I'm glad I didn't listen to my mother and "get rid of him."
Bio:
Norman was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. He had been a hefty 17-18 pounds and was feeling like skin and bones at 13 pounds. My husband and I decided to go all out and got him radioiodine therapy. It's been 2 months and he's now up to a healthy 16 pounds. We can't feel his bones anymore and we couldn't be happier. Norman is a cranky old man. When we brought home Piggy (see her on dogster.com) he hid in the closet for 6 months. He finally got brave and emerged fighting. Anytime she comes within 3 feet of him he hisses, spits and swats. The sound of his (declawed) paws against Piggy's snout is hysterical and it's to the point where she flinches without him even doing anything. We're just glad he's out of the closet!
UPDATE Feb, 2005 - Boy that radioiodine therapy really worked!! Norman is up to 19 pounds. Can you said DIET?!
