Arrival Story:
I knew about Abby shortly after she was born, but I didn't know she was destined to be our cat. A lady at my work named Colleen had a mom cat who had 5 kittens. Colleen told me about her cat's unintended "teenage" pregnacy , and sent photos right after the kittens were born . I thought we were all cute and watched them grow through the photos Colleen passed along. When the kittens were old enough for new homes I let people who might want a kitten know, but none of them were ready for a new cat at that time. And neither were we then, since Muffin was so elderly I did not want to annoy her with a new kitten, plus our 4 cats seemed so prefect together . But the kittens stayed in my mind, something beyond the kitten cuteness. Sadly in late August our beloved Muffin went to the rainbow bridge . I sent Colleen an e-mail to see if all the kittens had found forever homes, expecting her to say they had, but she sent back a photo of the one she called Miss Priss. I sent the photo on to my husband, Chris, and he thought this kitten looked like she belonged with us, so I told Colleen we would like to take her home amd make her part of our family. Colleen said that night she told "Miss Priss" that we were going to adopt her. Later that week when we met Abby she immediately purred and was so loving , a true doll, she snuggled with Chris. A daddy's girl! Then as we were holding her and playing with her dragonflies began to swarm above us! Beautiful huge ones! We knew then that Abby was truly meant to be our cat, as if the sweetness and purring did not already show us that... Another Dragonfly miracle! Look at Maggie's page for the explanation of the original dragonfly miracle. We look forward to many wonderful years with Abby as she grows into a special and beautiful companion. It was love at first sight....

Abby has only been with us for a short time, so she is like an unread book- so much to learn about her as she grows. For now she is a delightful little soul, exceedingly sweet and gentle. She is very people oriented and absolutely loves her Daddy. For now she is still scared of Loki, Maggie and Kiwi, she hisses and growls at them, then they of course feel obliged to hiss back. But Loki is making some progress with her. She isn't hissing at him so much now and he is trying to make friends with her. Right now she doesn't play much, but I'm sure that will change as she becomes used to her new home. She gets braver each day as she explores her new world. Update- after just a few days Abby has fit right in and Loki, Maggie and Kiwi seem to like her just fine! She acts like she has been here forever already. By the way she has copper eyes! 7 months: Abby has grown ! what a sweet, gentle beauty she is. Everyday I am thankful she came into our lives. She has developed such and amazingly sweet personality and gets along so well with everyone! 1 year- Abby has grown into a wonderful cat. She is still so very sweet. She loves to snuggle and her purr is super loud. She is still a "daddy's girl", and is quite bonded to Loki. She is not very big, and when she stands next to maggie and Loki she looks tiny! She's been with us for a whole year now. She is a treasure, so full of love. Playful and funny. She's really filled out a lot, she's got a cobby little body :-) Abby is now 2 years old. She has matured into such a great cat. SHe is sweet, cuddly and funny. Her purr is extra loud , her fur super soft. I think she has a wish to be the alpha cat, even though she is youngest. She tries to boss Kiwi around ( not a good idea!) by thumping her on her head! Its especially funny when she bosses Loki , considering the size difference. He's a good sport about it though. We love Abby more every day and can't imagine not having this little sweetie in our lives...such a love .

Here is a conversation I had with my Mama recently

Mama: " Abby you are such a cute little midget cat"

Me : "Excuse me!! I am not a midget!! I am a normal size cat!"

Mama: " But Abby , you are so tiny next to Loki and Maggie. You look like a kitten"

Me : " They are the giants, really I am perfectly normal, average, typical"

Mama: " Ok Abby , you win, you are normal and they are giants. But you are especially cute!"

Me : "ok , I will give you that one, I am cute . Now give me that treat"

Wow- I can’t believe it. I am a finalist in the Coolest Cat contest in the Captivated Cat category. There were so many entries, so many wonderful pictures- its just amazing to me, simple little Abby, to be a finalist!!! I feel honored!!
I still recall the day Mama took the picture. She was actually taking some pictures of my brofur Loki. He just loves to have his picture taken- a real camera hog. Anyway I was playing near the armoire and I saw myself in it. At first I didn’t recognize myself as I have become a big girl. So I reached up to see who it was, and Mama, camera in hand caught me staring at myself! I don’t normally stare at myself of course. Anyway, Mama seemed very pleased to have caught me looking at myself. I like to please Mama so that was good.

On another note, I received a giant handmade catnip mouse this week from a lady Daddy works with. It’s huge and smells so good!!!!!!! I adore it. I had to slap Loki on the head to keep it from him. Mama and Daddy say there is something very funny about he slapping Loki, because he’s so much bigger than me. Not just heavier, but much, much longer and taller. SHHH- don’t tell but he knows that we girl cats are in charge. We boss him around, he’s a real big pushover. Literally!

The leaves are mostly gone from the trees here in Maine now, and its getting colder. But no snow here yet. There are many tiny birds in the trees though. All of us kitties love to watch them, ‘specially the chickadees. The Blue Jays and Cardinals are still here too. It would be fun to chase them, but you know- I am very happy to be indoor kitty. Racing from window to window to watch the birds is fine with me.

Oh and I almost forgot! When I went to the vet a couple of weeks ago I was able to open my carrier while on the way back home!! I am pretty smart – huh? Our carriers are soft and they have zippers. I was able to unzip it with my pointy claw fingers and crawled out and walked about in the back seat! Maggie, Kiwi and Loki were very jealous that I did that. I was literally walking on top of them . MOL! I got to look out of the window and everything – way cool! And I was a good girl and went back into the carrier when we got home so I could go back into the house . It was a fun way to end a vet visit outing.

Less than 2 weeks to Thanksgiving!
